My teaching method for teaching languages in immersing the student in the language and building on the knowledge of what the student already knows before introducing a more difficult, new or complicated theory or topic. I would approach a lesson with a learner center approach using discussion based learning and student talking time. I also believe it is pivotal for a student to enjoy their lessons and to be engaged in their subject in order to motivate them to work at their target subject.
I am an English and Psychology graduate with a TEFL certificate who is currently working in an afterschool's club carrying out sports activities, arts and crafts and a homework tutoring service to primary aged children all through the medium of Irish. I will be starting my masters in Education this year in Primary Education and am very passionate about teaching and education.
LearnTefl.com- 150 Hour Master’s in Teaching English as a Foreign Language- Grade Achieved: A
25/02/2020 – 08/06/2020
This course thoroughly helped me in my pursuit of achieving my dream job as a teacher as it heightened my understanding of the complexities of teaching and learning even further than prior to completing the course. I found the detailed and concise English grammar module particularly helpful in grasping the foundational basics of teaching English as a second language. The detailed advice on teaching young children and the observational classroom videos were also greatly beneficial. This course also covered the vitality of communication within the classroom and the importance of Student Talking Time over Teacher Talking Time while also raising awareness about the importance of cultural differences within the classroom environment such as; different meanings behind different bodily gestures, traditional learning versus active learning and teaching appropriately according to the ethnicity and cultural backgrounds of your students.
Bachelor of Arts- Second Class Honors Degree-English and Psychological Studies
21/09/2016 – 24/05/2019
I Completed my undergraduate degree in English and Psychological studies covering a wide range of modules and topics related to teaching English such as the mechanics of the English language including grammar, syntax and formal versus colloquial use of language. As part of my English studies I also undertook several modules in cultural studies and the importance of representation of different cultures and cultural awareness in the educational sector.
I also studied the psychological science behind language and communication as part of my psychological studies and the benefits of learning to communicate at an early age and the palatability of the developing mind. One of my modules I studied as part of my degree was Environmental Psychology and discussed the benefits of your work and learning environment and the people around you on your productivity. This particular module was of interest to me as I now have a thorough understanding on the importance of how a teacher presents themselves to a class and the benefits of having a welcoming classroom environment on the learner’s ability to learn.

WORK EXPERIENCE :
Kids Inc- After School Coach
I am currently working as an After Schools club coach with Kids Inc. in Gaelscoil Ruairí, Maynooth Co. Kildare.
I am privileged to be able to work in a position which allows me to gain an invaluable experience working with children, providing tutoring services during their homework time, encouraging different methods and sources of arts and creativity in their daily lives and encouraging different methods of play and activities, using our imaginations in every situation especially when we are unable to go outside. The school I am currently working in is taught through the medium of Irish, thus obliging me to encourage the children to learn and speak a second language through immersion. I conduct every activity, game, lunchtime and homework time through the medium of the Irish language, If the children do not understand what I am saying I will say a different word in Irish they know, point to an object or part of my body, mime or use facial and bodily expressions to convey what I am trying to say. This method encourages the children to learn and understand the language at a young age and is hugely beneficial to their language and communication development.
This job also consists of a lot of planning prior to the following week or day, intertwining topical themes into their daily routine each week such as Halloween art and activities or encouraging them to use what they have learned in school that day into their daily play. It is important for me as an After-School Coach to be aware of different situations and personalities within the classroom. Some children will have more energy than others meaning I must be able to use differentiation within the after-schools club meaning setting up different activities and games to suit each child’s needs and wants. I make sure to make a schedule every week to ensure there is no empty time frames in the children’s day and to ensure the day runs smoothly.
Fighting Words -Creative Writing Workshop -Volunteer Tutor:
I have experience working in a classroom environment as a tutor for the organization Fighting Words which promotes creative writing, reading and art through workshops with primary and secondary school children. This gave me the experience to help young children be inspired to write their own stories, create their own art and help with their writing abilities. It also gave me the experience of being responsible for instilling the love of learning through stories and art in children as I believe it is a particularly important aspect of learning in any discipline. Teaching English as a foreign language to young children could also be achieved by using colorful images, creative stories and making learning a fun and memorable experience.
Hobbies and interests:
Hobbies and Interests include reading a diverse range of books, creating art, meeting new people, travelling and learning new skills through experiences.
