About Michael
As an elementary school teacher, I learned the importance of giving clear, step-by-step instructions when introducing new topics. Of course adults also appreciate clarity and simplicity when they are learning something new. For example, when learning to pronounce an English word like "past", we practice saying rhyming words such as "mast, cast, last, and fast" so that the sound is repeated and they can see how the word is formed in the mouth. I have had success working with students from South and Central America as well as Thailand because I am patient with them and I offer praise at every sign of increased fluency. I am amazed at the courage and intelligence the students show as they are learning a new language. My goal is to encourage their enthusiasm for learning.

We will use photographs to illustrate new vocabulary words. A sample lesson might make use of a travel brochure. The pictures would give us ideas for planning fun vacation activities. We could work together to make a packing list for the trip. We can do role-playing to help you increase your conversational skills. Examples: Use a menu to act out ordering a meal in a restaurant or interview each other about our home towns. After we talk, you will write down the dialogue from our conversation. Then you can read back your own words to connect your reading and writing skills. You will learn to form sentences using correct grammar. I will patiently offer corrections as needed. Your needs and your interests will determine our topics of study. I am easy to talk with and I will make learning fun for you. Together we will take the mystery out of learning English.
