In a few words, I am a qualified, passionate high-tech teacher of the Classics with a master degree on E-learning!

I have great experience in preparing secondary school students for university and language exams :

I love teaching Ancient/Modern Greek and Latin to both adults and kids! I particularly enjoy creating a joyful and creative atmosphere in the classroom, applying principals of game-based learning and theatre as well. My aim is to develop reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills equally, combining traditional and communicative approaches to teaching.

What differentiates me from most other teachers is that I strive to link the past with the future, the newest technology with a rigorous study of the classics.

About Stefania

In my current position, I work as a Teacher of Classics in the Carmenta Online Latin School of America, an accredited School by the Western Association of Schools for secondary and university students.

At the same time, I have welcomed the opportunity to familiarize myself with the British educational system through the Cover Teacher role in a wide variety of secondary schools in Sussex. So, I feel that I am where things are happening while I get a deeper understanding and I learn something new every day.

With more than 12 years’ experience as a Teacher of Classics, I have gained strong classroom management skills and the ability to build strong mentoring relationships with my students. My background includes teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students with or without learning disabilities -mainly- between 12 and 18 years old. As a result, I expanded my communication skills in order to understand their wants, their needs and their expectations. Moreover, the increasing intensity of the competition on the university entrance exams and the necessity to constantly deal with deadlines helped me develop excellent organizational skills. At the same time, having joined a variety of educational organizations, in Greece and in UK, that applied different teaching methods and curriculums I increased my adaptability.

Besides my on-the-job experience, my inner need to stay up to date with the latest trends in the educational technology and to keep my skills sharp for the next generations led me to the decision to study “Information Systems”. My Master dissertation, directed by Dr E.Tampouris who was listed among the 50 most active and core researchers in the world on his domain, is entitled “Game developing and Teaching Latin in a virtual, multi-user 3D environment”. With this research, I have been working to secure myself a place in the scholarly community and above all to make an impact on the way that Classics are being taught. And this is exactly what differentiates me from most other teachers: I strive to link the past with the future, the newest technology with a rigorous study of the classics.

Regarding my teaching approach I am constantly looking for innovative and inspiring ways to teach. My aim is to develop reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills equally, combining traditional and communicative approaches to teaching. I particularly enjoy creating a joyful and creative atmosphere in the classroom, applying principals of game-based learning and using modern software. The latest addition in my teaching approach is the Latin conversation!
