My teaching method focuses on developing a strong understanding of the oral and aural components of the language, as this is how we all learn our first language as children. These two complements also cumulatively compromise 40% of the Leaving Certificate examination. Developing a good ear and the ability to speak the language well will directly translate to an increased ability to read and write a high standard of French. Lesson structure typically encompasses an introductory lesson in which the student’s current ability is assessed. From there we can identify some strong points for the student to reinforce while also identifying areas that need work. I have delivered lessons face to face and via an online platform and have found that this methodology is equally effective in both scenarios.
I am currently studying a masters in biotechnology at NUIG. I have been providing French grinds throughout my undergraduate degree for students of all abilities. I received an A in higher level French when I sat my leaving certificate exams in 2016. I enjoy speaking French and aim to teach French in an accessible way to enable students to reach their full potential.
