About Mhairi
I recently graduated with an MSc (by research) in History at the University of Edinburgh and I am currently studying for a PhD in Archaeology and History at UHI. In 2021, I graduated from my undergraduate degree in History at UofE with first-class honours. I am happy to tutor on any of the topics which fall under the SQA National 5 and Higher history syllabi. Having studied the SQA History qualifications myself, I understand what is needed to excel in them. Experienced as a tutor, my track record is helping pupils to reach their goals and improve their grades for the final exam. Due to the more in-depth approach of the Advanced Higher course, I am only able to accept students from certain study areas. Please enquire about availability, letting me know which Advanced Higher topic the pupil is studying. I have experience of youth work with children aged five to eighteen, as well as experience of teaching first-year history pupils & second-year German culture pupils. I am a member of the PVG scheme and I am Disclosure Scotland checked. Please let me know if you would like further details about this. I thoroughly enjoy working with pupils, helping them develop their engagement with historical sources and essay writing skills. I hope to help them reach their potential!

I approach each student individually, creating lesson plans which best suit your needs. This year I can only offer online lessons (via Zoom). Lessons are varied depending on what students would like to work on. They can include interactive activities to help with knowledge retention/answer structure, essay writing activities and source material practice. When prelims and exams get closer, the focus will turn to revision questions and past papers. I try to keep lessons fun and engaging; that way, students enjoy their history learning and get as much as they can from the experience. Deadly! Mhairi offered a really thorough test session followed up by well prepared lessons. She took the time to understand what the areas of development were and has planned to address these.

Deadly! Mhairi was a brilliant History tutor for my daughter who has just sat her Higher (May 2022). Mhairi was really lovely and patient and built up confidence in my daughter insomuch that she went into her Higher History exam feeling much better prepared in terms of a deeper understanding of the topics. Highly recommend.

Details
In-person lessons are charged at £25ph, rising to £28ph* for Advanced Higher lessons. Lessons taking place on Zoom are £22ph, rising to £25ph for online Advanced Higher lessons. I am happy to arrange group lessons for any level, with the cost being split equally between the number of attendees. For those looking for short-term sessions in the run-up to exams, I am currently offering a special 5 lesson block focused on essay writing & practice for £90. I also offer a 10 block session focused on essay writing & practice, past papers & exam prep for £180. Group sessions can also be arranged for these blocks. *Existing pupils for AH level will be charged at £25ph.
