About the lesson
I sincerely believe that students should be supported in understanding complex material rather than simply rote learning which is taught by many institutions. My classes are conducted using an online whiteboard, Zoom and my own teaching materials (pdf) for professional courses. I will also provide a recording of each lesson. If you have any queries, please message me and I am happy to explain the process in more detail and answer any questions you may have. I teach all AAT units, Financial & Management Accounting and Corporate Finance subjects for the undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses. Please note, my rates will always be explained to you & agreed with you in advance and vary between £35-60 per hour depending on your subject and course. I will naturally discuss this with you, before commencing any lessons.

Deadly! Listens well and explains in a language my son understands. He is helpful and knowledgeable. My son is more confident going forward with accounting after only a few lessons.
Deadly! Ashley was very professional, knows his subject, provided clear understandable examples and was able to breakdown the topic so I understood it clearly. I would fully recommend him!
Deadly! Well organised and professional delivery of the lesson
Deadly! Ashley was brilliant; he is a clear communicator and he has a thoughtful approach.
- Ashley's response : It was great to meet Josh & I am looking forward to working with him for both Financial & Mgt Acctg.
Deadly! Ashley is a fantastic tutor! Very friendly and very patient when I ask him all sorts of questions regarding accounting and finance. Ashley is very good at breaking down complex concepts into the simplest of terms for students to understand. Would recommend Ashley!
Deadly! Ashley is definitely a very experienced tutor with great teaching skills and approaches. Once he understood my learning style, he organized the lessons so that, I could get the best for me, at even the toughest finance topics. His great commitment and empathy motivate me to understand the big picture down to all details in Finance. As a major student in Math but with finance, his positive attitude and impressive never give up approach in problem solving is amazingly changed my mind and approach for both Finance but now Accounting lessons. He is very supportive and extremely dedicated. My results are consistently changing even after our first lessons. I believe that he is one of the best tutors I could find, and so happy but keen to continue the learning journey, which regained me the confidence to succeed in Finance. He is simply great.
- Ashley's response : Very helpful working with Tarik.
Deadly! Very pleased with Ashley. I contacted him with a view to helping my daughter as she had come unstuck taking her level 4 AAT course, despite having bought an online tutoring package. Once she stopped, it has been difficult to get her motivated again. I messaged Ashley with what I was hoping for, ie. for my daughter to get motivated into starting again and working towards targets. First reluctantly she agreed, but after his first message she has perked up no end and a phone call with her earlier today suggests that the spell has indeed been broken and she is raring to go again. Here is her review, in her own words. "Ashley was very helpful when he was walking me through his lesson style, he made me feel at ease and encouraged me to ask questions so I would be comfortable with the material. He also provides a copy of the lesson so you can go back and re-read it yourself. I look forward to our next lesson." Really appreciate your help Ashley!
- Ashley's response : It was lovely to meet Lucy & I'm really pleased that she was able to recognise some AAT material in "real life". I look forward to working with her more.
Deadly! Ashley was extremely helpful. He made everything make so much more sense to me and really helped my understanding of the topic we went over. I would highly recommend Ashley to help with your AAT exams!
- Ashley's response : Excellent lesson. I'm pleased that I was able to help him with non-current assets.
Deadly! Correct and trustworthy. Ashley is a professional tutor and communication with him is great.
- Ashley's response : Very professional & I look forward to working with her again in the future.

I am more than happy to recommend Ashley as an CFA tutor. I worked with him on my 2nd attempt for CFA Level 1. I had already used a self-study package provided by my employer but I found using his slides and teaching much better. Working through the concepts & examples with him made a massive difference as he understands the type of exam questions & technique that’s needed from his own his experience.
I came to Ashley for help with my ICAS Financial Reporting exam, after failing it twice previously. He uses his own slides to explain tricky topics clearly and at the pace I need, and he always brings a smile and a sense of humour to the sessions.
By focusing on a proper understanding of the foundations I was able to pass my FR exam comfortably the third time around, and I was so pleased that I returned to him for my ICAS Strategic Finance and Management re-sit which I also passed!
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Ashley to anyone looking for a friendly, knowledgeable and approachable tutor.Ashley has an excellent style of online tutoring, explains concepts really clearly & I am happy to recommend him to others. He is extremely knowledgeable and encourages confidence by explaining difficult concepts extremely well.
I've known Ashley for a number of years, from when he was working in the city. He's extremely experienced in both business and training, and I have really enjoyed working with him - he has helped with both Management & Financial accounting.
Ashley has been my accounting tutor for 6months & probably the best tutor I have had. He is incredibly easy to work with, very knowledgeable & is really good at explaining concepts that I had previously struggled with. I have also recommended him to other people on my course.

Ashley has been a really helpful tutor. He is friendly, good at explaining concepts & always makes sure I understand topics before moving on. He has excellent expertise in the subjects and very clear at explaining and providing real life examples of accounting topics.
I got in touch with Ashley to help with my daughter’s university study. She is dyslexic and has found the transition to university difficult. Ashley is very kind, patient and professional. He has taken time to make sure we understand the entire process and my daughter and I have been very happy with his support. I am more than happy to recommend him.
Ashley has been an amazing tutor. I had to re-sit Advanced Financial Management for ICAEW & was completely lost. Not only does he provide his own material & examples but he makes a real effort to explain the concepts step-by-step in simple language. He also tries to use real-life examples making it far easier to understand & remember

01
When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I have always been interested in Accounting & Finance since school and I was fortunate to have teachers who shared their interest with me. At University I began to see how corporate finance and financial accounting began to work together, which can tell the story of how a business has performed. I tutored after I finished University because I enjoyed the challenge of trying to explain difficult concepts as clearly as possible and helping my students understand something they had previously been struggling with.
02
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
My subjects can be broadly divided into 3 topics Management Accounting, Financial Accounting & Finance. Surprisingly, it is not about the numbers! Management Accounting uses financial figures to inform planning & performance decisions, Financial Accounting is highly regulated, complex & provides similar information but in a different format for external users. Corporate finance then focuses on interpretating this data ensuring businesses raise the most suitable type of funding.
03
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
My first Economics teacher. I remember having a class test and he was standing over me as I answered a difficult question, so I was a bit more nervous than usual. I must have got it right because he gave me a big pat on the back. It wouldn’t be allowed today (!!) but I remember how pleased he was that I had got it right. I feel the same way when I'm able to explain a concept to a student, which they had been struggling with. It’s not something I had anticipated, but you become invested in a student’s progress!
04
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
Certainly, a combination of factors. I was never a brilliant, student so I can relate to finding some of the work difficult & I enjoy helping students understand it for the first time. You need to be patient & be prepared to explain the same topic in a different way. Tutors also need to have good listening & observational skills, so I can pace the tutorial accordingly & make sure that they understand what we are covering.
05
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
I don’t think any particular day was more important than another. The most valuable thing I have learned is that as my studies have progressed from school to University to post-graduate & professional programmes, my study & exam techniques have needed to evolve. This is why I always incorporate study & exam technique into my sessions rather than just teaching the material.
06
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Accounting & Finance both use a lot of terminology so I’m constantly trying to think whether there is a clearer or more concise way to explain new, complex concepts. I also try to relate the theory to real world examples, which I feel, immediately makes it more interesting & easier to learn.
07
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
Other than my family, my real passion is swimming. Unfortunately, I can't swim as much as I used to, but I still like to get into the water. Travel would be a very close second!
From a vocational perspective, I loved the intellectual challenge of working in Investment Banking. You certainly feel valued for your knowledge & diligence. You also have the opportunity to work with some brilliant people. It also enabled me to understand different types of financial products & financial analysis. Numbers never lie, so if you can learn to read financials, you can become an expert in any business.08
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?
I think a combination of things. You have to enjoy what you do & constantly look for ways to improve your tutoring skills. Also, I have completed the qualifications myself and have used my knowledge in the real world which certainly make it easier to teach & relatable for students. Most recently, I undertook teaching qualifications to help me best teach the material.
