When Are Leaving Cert Results Out in 2025?

Seeing as it’s one of the biggest days for any student who studies here in Ireland, you’ll want to double or even triple-check the source from which you’re getting your information. Especially when it comes to something as significant as receiving the results that will determine what courses you’ll be able to earn a place in. You’ll be glad to hear that we’ve taken the liberty of doing all that for you. With an understanding of the Leaving Cert scoring system, you'll know exactly where you lie when you access your grades.

It doesn't get any more credible a source than The State Examinations Commission itself. They have indeed confirmed that students will get their Leaving Cert results for 2025 on Friday, August 22, 2025. You may also notice that the date matches last year's schedule, which should offer that bit more assurance in that you’ll be counting down to the right date.

Leaving Cert Students
61,726

In 2025, approximately 61,726 students are registered to sit the Leaving Certificate Established programme.

While there may have been much tossing and turning the night before, you’ll have to wait until noon to check your results (and appeal them if something's wrong). Students can get their Leaving Cert results in two ways. The first of which would be the old-fashioned way that many of you might prefer, heading down to the school itself. Alternatively, you’ll be able to head over to The Candidate Self Service Portal on examinations.ie and gov.ie/leavingcertificate, which will let you choose how you want to see your results. Let’s dive a little deeper into these methods so you know exactly what to do on the day!

How to Access Your Leaving Cert Results Online

There isn’t just one way after the Leaving Cert. If you want to do something, there’s other paths you can follow.

Okay, seeing as nowadays the Candidate Self-Service Portal is becoming the preferred option since it provides the convenience of being able to check your results without having to drag yourself or your parents out of the house, let’s see what you’ll need to do. While it’s the handier option, it’s still a process you’ll have to familiarise yourself with of you want to avoid any unnecessary confusion and potential headaches on the day. While students aren't exactly able to fail the Leaving Cert, the grades are what's going to determine what options you've got available once you leave school.

Step-by-step guide to using the Candidate Self-Service Portal

The handy thing about the online portal is that it opens at 10 am sharp on Friday, 22 August 2025. So, if you want to put your nerves at ease, you’ll want to be ready to go for them. Again, you’ll be able to do this through both the official website at examinations.ie or gov.ie/leavingcertificate. When you get the page up on your computer or phone, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the Candidate Self-Service Portal link on the site.

Click it and enter three key details: your examination number, your password from registration, and your PPS number.

Then it’s just a matter of clicking the button to log in, and you should be good.

Don’t panic if it doesn’t come up right away. It tends to take a little while, seeing as almost every Leaving Cert student in the country will be trying to access the portal at the same time.

Eventually, and hopefully not after too long, your provisional results will appear on screen once you're in. The portal shows your overall grades and breaks down your component marks. You'll see how you did in oral examinations, practical tests, and written papers. This gives you a clear picture of your Leaving Cert results and will make sure there’s no confusion. Don't focus too much on selecting the easiest subjects. Instead, pick the subjects that you enjoy and you'll perform well!

What to do if you forget your login details

The day is already stressful enough without adding on any additional worries. So, in the event of losing your password, don’t fret—we’re all human, and it’s actually quite easily resolved. All you’ll have to do is head over to the portal login page and click "Forgot your password".

Yep, it’s really as simple as that. You’ll just need to provide your examination number and registration email address. From here, the system will send you an email with a secure link to reset your password. Not worth stressing over, right?

State Examinations Commission's helpdesk

The State Examinations Commission's helpdesk can help if you can't access your registered email or forgot multiple details. You can reach them at candidateportal@examinations.ie or call 090-6442702.

The helpdesk works extra hours around results day to help with login problems and technical issues that might stop you from seeing your results online. Part of your preparation for the big day might be figuring out the average points of Leaving Cert students.

What You Need to View Your Results

That just about covers everything. The final thing you’ll want to be sure to have prepared before the big day is the credentials you need to retrieve the results. Thankfully, you’ve got all summer to get these ready, so let’s see exactly what they are.

Examination number

Your examination number is a unique six-digit identifier for your Leaving Cert exams. Your school would have given you this number earlier in the year, usually before you finish up for the Christmas break.

As your teacher might have mentioned more than a few times, this number is a vital piece of information, but don't worry if you've lost it.

You can check your exam-related documents or contact your school directly, since they keep records of all students' examination numbers.

Students who entered for the Leaving Certificate independently will find this number in their State Examinations Commission correspondence. This number is essential to access your Leaving Cert results, view scripts, and submit appeals later if need be!

Everyone has their own unique set of strengths and weaknesses, so what one student might consider tp be a challenging subject, another might excel at.

Your student portal account password protects your Leaving Cert results, so that they’re for your eyes only.

You’ll remember that you created this password back when you first registered on the Candidate Self-Service Portal (CSSP).

The SEC takes your results' security seriously, and this password will give a layer of protection so only you can see your information.

PPS number

The last piece that you’ll want to keep somewhere you can easily retrieve it is your PPS number. This unique identifier has seven numbers and one or two letters. You'll need the first four digits as your PIN for authentication.

Get Your PPS Number

You can call the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection at 071 967 2616 as a last option. Note that parents or guardians must make this call for students under 18.

You can find your PPS number on your Public Services Card, Medical Card, European Health Insurance Card, or even any payslips that you might have lying around if you had a part-time job. If you can’t find it, there’s no harm in asking your parents, it’s an important piece of information, so it may be filed away somewhere in the house! The Leaving Cert isn't a pass-or-fail system; the better your performance, the more college courses will be available to you.

Preparing for Results Day

The path to accessing your Leaving Cert results in August should be smooth, now that you know exactly what lies ahead of you from the moment you wake up on results day. Now, you’ll have a good idea of the things you need to have; you can prepare once you’ve got your exams taken care of. The time between June exams and August results marks the end of years of hard work. You can find support from many sources during this period. SEC staff, school guidance counsellors, and helplines are available if you need help or just want to discuss your options. With this out of the way and the Leaving Cert results date marked in your calendar, you can get as close to a stress-free summer that a leaving cert student could ask for.
