"The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards."
- Anatole France
Everyone remembers those teachers who inspired us at school, most people will agree that the best teachers were those who genuinely loved their subject. It’s infectious when someone speaks passionately about a topic and that’s what we look for in our tutors at Superprof. We want people who can communicate a deep-rooted passion for the subject they teach and, of course, have the knowledge base to go alongside it.

Why Should You Consider Becoming an Online Tutor?
Online tutoring involves teaching students by using technology like computers and laptops, it grew in popularity during the recent Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdowns.
People who love teaching and are good at the courses they are taking in college, or a particular skill like singing, dancing or playing an instrument can consider online tutoring to earn money.
Online tutoring is a much better paid job compared to other jobs that you can do while in school.
Making extra money as you study will help you pay your bills and be able to afford to go out with friends. Other reasons to tutor people while you study include:
- It helps to improve your communication skills
- You gain work experience (which looks great on your future CV)
- You get to create your work schedule around your free time, organising your clients' schedules and advising them. Which improves both your leadership and time management skills.
- You gain confidence in yourself and your knowledge and abilities.

Tips to Make Your Tutor Profile Stand Out
Once you have decided that tutoring is for you, you will need to find some students/clients, a lot of people find this part quite difficult at the start.
There are many ways to get started. Obviously, tutors look to get the word out to friends and family, which a good way of building your experience. But if you want to tutor online, we recommend signing up for a tutoring company.
As a tutor with Superprof, we help you to find new students, by allowing you to have a free profile, which sets out your experience and expertise. Students will then be able to message you to organise lessons. We’ll help you through it all and process all of their payments, saving you the hassle. as this can be another difficult role to undertake.
"A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience's attention, then he can teach his lesson."
- John Henrik Clarke
Profile Photograph
This is the first thing people will see when they search for the subject or skill they want to learn, many pictures. Make sure that you don’t use a group photo, try choosing a high-quality photo, in which you appear friendly and professional.
Below are 3 nice examples:
1) If you are going to be tutoring people lessons in educational subjects such as English or maths etc... and you can take a photo at college in front of a chalkboard or grand hall that would look great. A nice friendly smile in the classroom shows you are serious about education

2) If you are going to be giving music lessons and can get someone to take a nice smiling picture of you with it this is a great idea. It shows that you enjoy spending your free time playing music. Which is why these students are looking to learn.

3) If you're going to be giving lessons in an activity like Yoga, Pilates or meditation perhaps a photo of your mid practice would make a good profile picture.

Important Information to Include in Your Profile!

- Your location (more than Leinster or Connacht some people may want in-person lessons)
- Something to separate you - for example, ‘Experienced LC Maths Tutor in Dublin’ or ‘Passionate Musician and Tutor in Cork’, 'Former All-Ireland Champion Irish Dancer and Tutor in Galway'.
