About Caren
I'm an experienced educator with over 18 years of teaching English as a Second Language. My background as both a teacher and healer shapes my approach: I bring patience, clarity, and a genuine respect for each learner's journey. I believe language learning is about more than grammar and vocabulary—it's about building confidence, expressing identity, and connecting across cultures. Outside of teaching, I'm a tarot reader, Reiki practitioner, and letterpress artist. These practices remind me daily of the power of stories, symbols, and human connection—values I bring into every tutoring session. Students describe me as approachable, supportive, and encouraging, and I strive to create spaces where learning feels engaging, personal, and empowering.

My teaching is grounded in experiential learning and real-world application. I believe language is best learned when it feels useful and alive, so I integrate authentic materials, everyday situations, and interactive practice into each lesson.
A typical session begins with a focused grammar or language point, followed by guided practice and real-life application. For example, we might start with a lesson on past tense verbs, then move into conversation practice, role play, or social language activities that help students use what they’ve learned in context.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to tailor lessons to the specific goals and needs of each student. Whether a learner wants to strengthen academic writing, prepare for professional communication, or feel more confident in casual conversation, I adapt my methods so the lessons are relevant and effective.
I work with learners at all levels and from all educational backgrounds. Over the past 18 years, I’ve taught students from a wide range of cultures and experiences, which allows me to meet each student with flexibility, patience, and respect.
