About Zari
I am a dedicated violin tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music Education (Strings – Violin). My journey has taken me from classrooms to concert halls, where I’ve successfully directed string ensembles, group violin classes, and vibrant youth orchestras. I love the challenge of shaping a group’s sound, guiding students to hear and respond to each other as they play. In my lessons, I focus on section leading, helping players step into leadership roles with confidence and clarity. I teach the art of ensemble dynamics—how to blend, balance, and breathe as one musical voice. We work on tuning as a group, learning to listen deeply, adjust, and create harmony that feels effortless. Team musicianship is at the heart of what I do, because music becomes most powerful when shared. I’ve had the privilege of working with schools, community centres, and chamber groups, bringing together students of different ages and backgrounds. Whether coaching beginners in their first ensemble or refining the skills of advanced players, I create an environment where every student feels part of something bigger. For me, ensemble playing is more than just notes—it’s a conversation, a shared experience, and a journey of collective growth. Watching students discover that joy together is the reason I teach.

When I teach violin, I like to tell students that every note has a story. In the beginning, many struggle with posture, holding their violin too tightly or slouching without realising. I gently guide them, showing how a relaxed stance lets music flow freely. Sometimes, a student’s bow feels like an unruly paintbrush—slipping, squeaking, or sounding scratchy. Together, we turn that struggle into a lesson, correcting bow hold step by step until the sound blooms like colour on a canvas. Weak intonation often feels like an unsolvable puzzle, but I teach students to listen deeply, using slow scales and careful tuning to turn those puzzle pieces into a perfect picture. Some students crave structure, so I introduce scale discipline, breaking practice into small, clear steps that give them steady progress to celebrate. Others need to feel the music come alive, and I help them explore expressive dynamics—soft whispers, bold declarations, and everything in between. There are moments when motivation fades, when a student doubts their ability or feels stuck. I share stories of famous musicians who once struggled too, reminding them that every great player began as a beginner. For those who need confidence, I create small wins, like mastering a short piece they can proudly play for family. For students racing ahead with hunger for more, I feed that energy with challenging exercises and creative pieces to keep their spark alive. Every lesson is more than notes and technique—it’s about building a voice through the violin. I want each student to leave not only playing better, but also believing in their ability to express themselves fully through music.
