About Ecem

Hello, and welcome to my page!

My name is Ecem More and I’m not just a tutor — I’m an educator, mentor, and lifelong learner with a passion for unlocking potential. With over 5 years of teaching experience across the UK and internationally, I specialise in preparing ambitious learners for 7+, 11+, 13+ private school entrance exams, GCSE & IGCSE English, IELTS, Functional Skills, and academic mentoring for all age groups — from young learners to adult professionals.

I am CELTA-certified, trained by the British Council in IELTS delivery, and actively involved in youth-focused education projects across London. I work with charities, alternative provisions (APs), and community interest companies to support learners with SEND, ESL, and trauma-informed needs, ensuring inclusive access to high-quality learning. I also deliver bespoke trainings for other educators — blending psychology, pedagogy, and creativity into everything I do.

Whether you’re aiming for a top-tier grammar school, university admissions, or simply trying to regain confidence in English, I tailor each session with care, clarity, and challenge. My lessons are engaging, intellectually rich, and strategically designed to get results — while nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and personal growth. Above all, I believe that education changes lives — and I’d be honoured to support your journey.

Exam Boards Covered: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge (CIE), ISEB, IELTS (Academic & General), Functional Skills

Approach: Kind but ambitious. Academic but accessible. Tailored, structured, and empowering.

Bonus: I love literature, theatre, art, languages, and the power of a good metaphor. Expect poetic examples and structured brilliance.

My lessons are carefully designed to be tailored, strategic, and student-centred — every learner is unique, and so is every session we create together. Whether you're preparing for the 7+, 11+, 13+, GCSEs, IGCSEs, IELTS, or Functional Skills exams, I build each lesson with precision, purpose, and passion. I don't believe in rote learning or one-size-fits-all worksheets. Instead, I use a differentiated and diagnostic approach: identifying strengths, targeting gaps, and scaffolding progress in a way that builds both skill and confidence.

As a Cambridge qualified teacher and British Council IELTS instructor, I bring internationally recognised methods into every session. My work across alternative provision (AP), SEN settings, private schools, and adult education has shaped a teaching practice that is inclusive, trauma-informed, and aspirational. I believe that empathy and high expectations can coexist — and in my classroom, they always do.

Here’s what you can expect from a typical lesson with me:

A structured start: We begin with a check-in, review of previous goals, and a clear objective for today.

Targeted input: I deliver content that is appropriate for your level but pushes you just beyond your comfort zone (hello, Zone of Proximal Development!).

Active engagement: Lessons are interactive, visual, and intellectually stimulating — no boring drills.

Immediate feedback: I correct, guide, and model throughout the session so that you're not only practising — you're learning.

Homework and progress tracking: For those preparing for exams, I offer weekly SMART targets and a clear study plan that brings tangible progress. I also bring myself into my lessons — a warm, encouraging, curious teacher who listens deeply and teaches with intention.

My lessons are not just about content mastery — they’re about building thinking habits, academic independence, and self-belief. You’ll leave every lesson with:

Clear understanding of key skills and concepts
Refined exam techniques and awareness of marking criteria
Confidence in using language effectively
Curiosity, sparked by meaningful discussion and real-life examples
And, of course, a sense of accomplishment.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

It’s a bit of an emotional journey—one where I’d say tutoring didn’t just happen to me, it chose me. Five years ago, in the middle of the pandemic, I had been training relentlessly for two years to become a commercial airline pilot for Turkish Airlines. Then we were told everything was indefinitely on hold. Me and uncertainty? We don’t get along. After two months of grieving and soul-searching, I started tutoring—something that was always a part of my Plan B: becoming an academic in English Literature.
As time went on, I discovered my strength in connecting with people, adapting to different needs, and creating impact through education. I built a business plan, applied for a visa, and launched my own education consulting business in the UK. Sometimes life gives you lemons—and I chose to plant a whole orchard.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I’m an English teacher with specialisms in SEN and ESL. I also work as a trainer and facilitator with charities and youth organisations. But really—I’m a forever student of life. I love meaningful conversations, and I’m always looking for new ways to connect and inspire.
My favourite topics include politics, philosophy, social justice, art and literature, travel, music, and even perfume (yes, really). That said, I can hold space for any topic my students care about. I’m a Gemini after all—versatility is my middle name. And when we’re learning together, it’s not just about academics; it’s about building confidence, self-expression, and purpose.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

As a Turkish person, how can I not mention Mustafa Kemal Atatürk? A visionary, a reformist, a man who turned the ashes of a collapsed empire into a modern nation. He was the ultimate educator and leader. His belief in the power of knowledge, critical thinking, and equality continues to shape my view of education—not just as a profession, but as a mission.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Flexibility and adaptability (no two students are the same!)

An entrepreneurial mindset—especially if you’re a freelance tutor

    Strong time and energy management

    Creativity and resourcefulness

    High emotional intelligence

And of course, digital literacy—because we live in a hybrid, high-tech world!
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my most unforgettable students was a young refugee who arrived in the UK with barely any English. I worked with her one-on-one for a year—slowly building vocabulary, confidence, and self-esteem. A year later, she won Learner of the Year. She asked me to accompany her to the awards ceremony and later used me as her professional reference when applying for jobs. Moments like this remind me that education is so much more than grades—it’s a bridge between past pain and future possibility.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

Honestly, the biggest challenge is wearing multiple hats at once. When you're working with learners who have complex needs—emotional, linguistic, cognitive—you’re not just a tutor. You become a mentor, a coach, a translator of systems, and sometimes even a safe space.
Another challenge is making education feel relevant and empowering—especially for learners who’ve had negative experiences at school or who feel excluded by traditional structures. But these challenges are also where the magic lies.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is more than a job for me—it’s a way to actualise all my passions. Whether I’m writing poetry, designing a workshop on emotional literacy, mentoring a young person through career confusion, or preparing someone for their IELTS exam, it all connects to one thing: empowering others to express themselves and thrive.
Outside of education, I have deep passions for philosophy, literature, perfume design, cultural studies, and storytelling in all its forms. I guess you could say my passion is transformation—and I use whatever tools I have to make it happen.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I’m not just a tutor—I’m a multidimensional mentor. I bring curiosity, care, creativity, and critical thinking into every session. My learners trust me because I treat them like individuals, not boxes to tick. I’ve worked with people from all walks of life—children, refugees, adults returning to education, neurodiverse learners, aspiring medics and artists alike.
I design lessons that speak to who they are and where they want to go. I’m always learning, always evolving. And most importantly—I show up, fully and wholeheartedly. That’s my Superprof power.
