About Unity

I'm a final year in BEng industrial engineering. I'm a trained academic mentor at my institution and tutor. As a student, I know the struggles of other students, which I know puts me in a better position to be able to assist other students get the concept. The goal is not for me to make money, but it's to help struggling students understand their work better so that they can excel.

Most teachers teach the theory but not application and in order to do well you
need to understand your theory and know how to apply your theory. I then as your tutor will be there to close that gap and be able to help you know the basics, understand the theory and be able to apply the theory of the concept in order for you to do well in the exams.

My lessons come as a package which is much affordable than once off lessons.

  • When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

When doing my matric in 2018, we had no teachers in my high school and I wanted to do medicine after school, which became the drive to me teaching myself maths and science, after I passed my matric and I was one of the only 5 students that passed science and maths well, I wanted to help other students pass so that they can be able to do whatever their heart desires in varsity.
  • Tell us more about the subject or subjects you teach, the topics and techniques you like to discuss with/demonstrate to students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Maths is the easiest subject because you get to apply the same thing over and over again, just that you get different values, once you understand your theory and know-how to apply the theory in different ways which they can ask you in the exam, then you will never get it wrong. It's also important to focus more on the chapters that carry more marks, which are most difficult for the majority of students but are quite easier for me because I know the theory and that's all it takes to know your theory and understand it.
  • Do you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you? Tell us who, and why.

Yes, my matric economics/ business studies teacher, always made sure his students get 60%+. He was a great teacher and great motivator and it was because of him that I believed that we are all smart, because learners that were really doing bad were getting 50+ and 60+ while the smartest got 90+ and 80 +. In 2017 our teacher received an award from the Department of Education for producing the best results. He is my inspiration as I want to help students so that they get great grades.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good teacher or tutor?

To be a great tutor for me means knowing your students and having the ability to teach in different ways to cater to the different personalities of the students you teach. Patience is one of the keys to being a great tutor, as tutor. I need to be able to close the gaps that the teacher has created and that means I have to explain the same concept multiple times for the student to fully understand.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your schooldays?

I did my matric twice due to a lack of teachers, the first time I did my matric in 2017 I got a level 2 in maths and physical science with a bachelor's degree, while the other subjects were level 7s,6s and 5s. Only maths and physical science were level 2s. When I went back to school to redo my matric as a full-time student again but with a different mindset, I got level 6s, 7s and 5s only with mathematics sitting on level 6 and physical science at level 5. When I got to varsity I did my industrial engineering and my final mark for engineering mathematics 1 was a distinction. In 2021 I attended awards which were sponsored by gibela in which I was 1 of the best students, and had an overall mark of 90%. All this I was able to achieve because I had the right mindset.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing at school or during yo training?

I still struggle a lot with balancing time among all my modules; how I try to balance is studying all the time even during holidays to ensure I don't compromise any module.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

Giving out to the community is my drive. Teaching is my passion; helping people achieve their academic goals gives me peace because as much as there are many keys to success, education has never failed.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

Helping a student move from 40% to 70%+ makes me a Super tutor.
