As a devoted educator in the Corporate Strategy discipline, I have a formal Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University with 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
My teaching philosophy is deeply influenced by my disciplinary identity and relentless commitment to student learning. Drawing upon feedback from a respected colleague and refining my initial draft, I have expanded and honed my teaching philosophy to emphasise the key elements of my approach.
1. Disciplinary Identity and Mastery
As a teacher of Corporate Strategy, I embrace my disciplinary identity and aim to impart a sense of mastery to my students. I emphasise the value of critical analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills within the corporate landscape. By integrating real-world examples, contemporary case studies, and current industry trends, I develop course content that engages students in experimental learning, bridging the gap between theory and practice. My goal is to nurture their ability to think strategically and gain a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by organisations.
2. Goals as a Teacher
My primary goal as an educator is to foster intellectual growth and professional development in my students. I strive to ignite their curiosity, inspire a passion for Corporate Strategy, and empower them to become adaptable and innovative leaders in the business world. I am committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to take risks, challenge conventional thinking, and develop their unique perspectives.
3. Approach to Lesson Planning and Delivery
In designing and delivering each lesson, I adopt a student-centred approach that acknowledges the diversity of learning styles and backgrounds among my students. I incorporate various teaching methods, such as interactive discussion forums, case study analyses, simulations, and collaborative group projects, to create an engaging and dynamic classroom experience. Through effective storytelling and relevant examples, I strive to captivate students’ interest and facilitate their understanding of complex concepts. I forster active participation, critical thinking, and self-reflection by employing an open-ended questions, thought-provoking activities, and reflective assignments.
4. Syllabus and Assignment Design
My syllabus serves as a roadmap for student learning, providing a clear outline of course objectives, expectations, and assessment criteria. I meticulously select reading materials, resources, and assignments that reflect the evolving nature of Corporate Strategy while striking a balance between foundational knowledge and emerging trends. Assignments are thoughtfully designed to foster analytical thinking, strategic decision-making, and effective communication skills. Furthermore, I integrate opportunities for self-assessment, peer-to-peer feedback, and reflection, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey.
5. Promoting Engagement and Inclusive Learning
To create an inclusive and collaborative learning environment, I prioritise active student engagement, fostering a sense of community among the classroom cohorts. I facilitate open dialogue, respectful debates, and interdisciplinary perspectives to stimulate critical thinking and broaden students’ horizons. By encouraging teamwork, I promote the development of interpersonal skills and cultivate a supportive community of learners. Additionally, I actively strive to create an inclusive classroom that values and respect diverse voices and experiences.
6. Strength and Growth
Recognising my strengths as an educator, I take pride in creating a positive and energising classroom atmosphere. I establish meaningful connections with students, fostering an environment conducive to open communication and mutual respect. My clarity of communication and ability to translate complex concepts enable students to grasp and apply theoretical frameworks effectively.
Continuing professional growth is essential to my teaching philosophy. I actively engage in pedagogical research, attend conferences, and collaborate with colleagues to remain at the forefront of innovative teaching practices. By remaining open to feedback from students and peers, engaging in self-reflection, and continuously refining my teaching strategies, I adapt to the evolving needs of my students.
