About Dr Edward Wickstead

Dr. Edward Wickstead is a postdoctoral research fellow within the department of Neurology. Currently working in Dr. Zhenyu Yue's lab, Dr. Wickstead's primary research objectives can be unified by his desire to recognise how neuroinflammatory signalling can contribute to pathological ageing and the development of neurodegenerative diseases. His current work at Mount Sinai hopes to elucidate how chromatin modulation, autophagy impairment, and cellular senescence pathways may contribute to cellular stress and disease. Prior to his appointment at Mount Sinai, Edward was a postdoctoral fellow within Dr. Martha Bhattacharya’s lab at the University of Arizona, wherein he worked to help determine the role of a novel protein, TMEM184b, within the endolysosomal system. Trained in immunology and neuropharmacology, Edward earned his PhD in neuroscience from the University of Westminster in 2019. His thesis focused on the inflammatory resolving receptor FPR2 and its potential as a druggable target in neuroinflammatory disease. In 2015, Edward was awarded a BSc in Biomedical Science, with first class honours, from King's College London. He also completed an exchange year at the National University of Singapore during his time as an undergraduate. In 2022, Dr. Wickstead was awarded the outstanding post-doctoral mentor award by the Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP) at the University of Arizona for his mentorship of undergraduate research students. Dr. Wickstead is also an avid mental health blogger, wherein he often talks about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder within a public forum, a decision he hopes will support the normalisation of communication in regards to mental health disorders.

About the lesson

I am a Neuroscience Researcher based at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. I am available to help with research projects, manuscript editing and critical evaluation of dissertation and coursework pieces. I have several published manuscripts at multiple internationally recognised journals, and have presented at international scientific conferences.

My son has an autism diagnosis and does not always warm to tutors, or gets bored with them, but he enjoyed his sessions with Edward, and it definitely led to an improved grade compared to how he’d been doing in mocks. I highly recommend Edward to support you and your child - he was also very good at communicating, and flexible regarding occasional schedule changes.
