About Meng-Jan
Hi, my name is Meng-Jan and I am a Medicinal Chemistry student at UCD. I am 22 years old and grew up in Dublin. I have been playing piano since the age of 6 and teaching for about 3 years now and an honorary recipient of the RIAM Teacher Spotlight Award.
Credentials:
Distinction holder in Grade 8 ABRSM piano examination.
Advanced Level 1 ABRSM certificate, advanced in piano performance
Grade 8 certificate in ABRSM Music Theory
Multiple prize winner, at competitions such as DIT, Feis Ceoil, EPTA, NewPark Festival, and the Interschool Music Festival.
Educational Background:
Student at TUD Conservatoire under the world-renowned teacher Shirin Goudarzi-Tobin.
Musical Journey:
Over a decade of dedicated piano playing, honing my skills and developing a deep appreciation for the intricacies of music.
Former concert pianist, with the privilege of performing at the National Concert Hall, an experience that fueled my passion for live performance.

How do you teach?
I teach based on a personalised curriculum. I have experience with ABRSM and RIAM syllabuses and this would be my recommended course of teaching and learning. For my more ambitious students I do teach additional pieces for competition level and to participate in various music festivals. I teach students from the ground up, focusing firstly with background theory and the essentials for piano playing. I will pay particularly attention to finger exercises and finger strength as these are essential skills for piano performance. Each lesson incorporates valuable time for sight reading and scale practice, with the remainder focused on mastering new pieces with the main focus on articulation. The lessons are completely customised, tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses. This ensures a deeply engaging and effective learning experience. I recommend 45 mins lessons for anyone below Grade 3 and 1 hour lessons for grade 3 and above standard.
