About Rafa
I've played cavaquinho for 25 years and I've been teaching for 15. My references on the instrument are Messias Brito, Jayme Vignoli, Canhoto, Carlinhos do Cavaquinho and Waldir Azevedo.
The cavaco is my main instrument but I also play 7-string guitar and percussion. I've studied with musicians like Messias Brito, Jayme Vignoli, Luiz Machado, Maestro Proveta, Julio Herrlein, among others.

Be careful when studying with teachers specializing in string instruments other than brazilian cavaquinho. The solo technique is different from the guitar or mandolin, for example. The way to assemble the chords is very different from the guitar and the rhythmic picking is full of tricks.
If you know how to play by ear but don't know theory, or if you can only play by reading - let's balance this knowledge to be a better musician.
