About Saanvi

I’m a violin tutor with over ten years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Early Music, specialising in Baroque violin. My journey began with classical training, but my heart was drawn to the lively traditions of Irish, Scottish, American Old-Time, and other folk styles. I love sharing the beauty of these traditions by teaching students how to play with energy, feeling, and authenticity. In my lessons, we dive into ornamentation—those little slides, cuts, and grace notes that give folk music its character. I also focus on rhythmic bowing patterns, helping students create the driving pulse that makes a tune come alive. Much of my teaching is ear-based, so students learn to really listen, absorb, and play by feel rather than relying only on sheet music. I use folk jam tracks and drone tuners to create an immersive, real-world sound environment, so practice feels like playing along with a session, not just an exercise. My approach is repertoire-based, meaning students learn techniques through songs and tunes, building skills naturally as they go. Lessons are flexible, fun, and always connected to the joy of making music. Whether you’re picking up the violin for the first time or looking to deepen your folk style, I’m here to guide you. Together, we’ll explore the rich sounds and traditions of the violin and bring this music to life in your own hands.

About the lesson

My teaching approach for violin is built on the idea that every student can find their own voice through music. I start by creating a solid foundation in technique, from posture and bow control to smooth finger placement, so playing feels natural and comfortable. Alongside this, I include ear training exercises to help students listen deeply, match pitch, and develop a strong musical ear that guides their playing. I believe that music is more than notes on a page, so I encourage emotional expression—helping students bring feeling and storytelling into every piece they perform. I also focus on building performance confidence, showing students how to stay calm, focused, and expressive whether they are playing for one person or an entire audience. For those drawn to stage and storytelling, I bring in elements of interpretation, stage presence, and connection, helping them shine in every performance. For those who love using music to inspire or uplift, I support them in playing with heart and intention, so their sound truly resonates. Every lesson is interactive, with a mix of guided practice, creative exercises, and space for students to experiment and discover their own style. I adapt my methods to fit each student’s goals, whether they are learning for joy, preparing for exams, or stepping into the spotlight. Through consistent practice, clear guidance, and encouragement, I aim to make the violin feel like a natural extension of each student’s voice. In the end, my goal is to nurture skilled, confident, and expressive violinists who can bring music to life in their own unique way.
