About Callum
I’m a piano teacher with over 8 years of experience and a Graduate Diploma in Piano Pedagogy. Teaching piano is my passion because I love helping students connect emotionally to the music they play. For me, it’s not just about hitting the right notes but bringing each piece to life with feeling and expression. I focus on building solid foundations in essential skills like pedal technique and dynamic control. These tools allow students to add depth and colour to their performances. I also guide students in developing nuanced musical expression, helping them understand the subtle details that make music truly moving. My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs and goals. Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, I aim to create a supportive environment where you can grow and explore your musical voice. I believe that emotional connection and technical skill go hand in hand. When you master both, playing the piano becomes a deeply rewarding experience. I’m excited to share this journey with you and help you express yourself through music. My teaching approach focuses on helping students develop creativity and freedom at the piano. I emphasise improvisation in various styles like jazz, blues, and pop, so you can express yourself in many musical settings. We work on melodic development, learning how to create interesting and memorable melodies. I also teach comping patterns, which are essential for supporting other musicians and adding texture to your playing. Creating spontaneous arrangements is a key part of my lessons. I encourage you to experiment and find your own musical ideas in the moment. This builds confidence and keeps your playing fresh and exciting. I’m especially good at working with Jazz Pianists and Pop Players. I provide consistent, clear feedback to help you discover and refine your unique voice on the piano. My goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and inspired to create music on the spot. Together, we’ll unlock your potential and develop your musical intuition. Whether you’re just starting or looking to improve, my lessons focus on building skills that lead to joyful and spontaneous music-making. Let’s explore the piano and make your musical ideas come alive!
