About Meredith
I'm a recent University of Southern California graduate who truly loves writing! I never thought I would enjoy the thing that I dreaded being assigned for homework, but through the course of my education, I had some amazing mentors who helped reframe my perspective on writing. While I understand not everyone will get to the point of wanting to write for fun, I at least aim to make it a less painful experience. This entails a level of fun, engagement and patience that I bring to all tutoring sessions. I would be thrilled to give you the extra nudge to make your school year more enjoyable!

Here's an example of an exercise I might do during a preliminary session:
- First, I ask the student to select a topic that interests them. Then, I ask them to develop a thesis, introduction, topic sentences and conclusion.
- Next, I do the same! (I find that when I am working alongside a student, rather than telling them what to do while I sit by and watch, the student feels like we're in it together).
- Lastly, I ask the student to compare our two versions. This isn't to promote my version over theirs — rather, it's to help the student learn to identify alternate ways to think and write. I'll help them figure out what's great about their writing and how they could elevate it further.
I love working with middle schoolers who are just beginning to write longer pieces — this is such a crucial time in their development as writers! I also recognize how unique this age group is — they don't want to be treated as kids, so I try my best to acknowledge their maturity and individuality!
