About Heidi
Experienced and published poet, writer, and educator with a passion for empowering students. I hold a PhD in English Literature & Creative Writing from the University of Georgia and an MFA in Poetry/Creative Writing from Syracuse University.
As an Occasional Lecturer at UCD and an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Alabama, I have nurtured and mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students, helping them refine their craft and achieve recognition through awards and publications. My commitment to innovation in teaching is reflected in professional development certifications focused on eLearning and inclusive teaching practices.
My own poetry has been widely published in respected journals like American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, and Columbia Poetry Review. I am the author of four acclaimed poetry collections, most recently A**AAA (Ahsahta Press, 2018). My nonfiction memoir, Take Care Fake Bear Torque Cake, was published by Caketrain in 2012.
In addition to teaching and writing, I have extensive editing experience, including co-editing the anthology Big Energy Poets: Ecopoetry Thinks Climate Change (BlazeVOX, 2017) and the online journal Poets for Living Waters.
I look forward to guiding students in discovering and developing their unique creative voices.
