About Avis
I have been tutor for almost 20 years and find it most rewarding. I have tutored about 30 students over that period of time, always, as a part time endeavor or gift to a grandchild or friend. I don't do it for the money but need to be compensated for my time. I do it because I love to learn and I love helping others learn. All my students have succeeded in the courses I have provided tutoring in. I expect that and help them to expect that of themselves.
I cover all the basics up front and can move as fast as you like or as slow as you need to. If you have the basics and need to develop skills in balancing equations or predicting reactions or calculating moles or weights then we move quickly to that.

I am someone who loves chemistry and loves to share that knowledge with others. Much of chemistry is interesting and exciting but at first to many a little strange. Having someone who knows the subject and can ask questions to find out where you are having difficulty and can answer specific questions that you have can be a game changer. I like to start at the beginning and be sure you have the basics and go from there. Chemistry builds on basic knowledge and understanding of foundational concepts. Some things have to be memorized, others use retained knowledge as the basis for figuring answers out. Knowing the difference between the two is very helpful. If you have a text that you are following, it is often a good idea to use that as the outline for how we cover the subject. If not, I have materials that we can use. If your course also has a laboratory that is exciting so that theory is supported with experience.
