About Praneetha

Hey there! My name is Praneetha, and I graduated in 2023 from MacRob with an ATAR of 98.90! Currently I am studying a Bachelor of Science at The University of Melbourne, with plans to study the Doctor of Physiotherapy. In 2024 I will be holding private tutoring lessons for VCE Biology (48), VCE Chemistry (42) and VCE Literature (42).

Year 12 is a hectic year, and as someone who balanced 6 really difficult subjects in my final year (Spec, German, Chem, Methods, Lit, and Uni Bio) along with the UCAT, I not only understand how precious your time is, but will support you both academically and emotionally so that you can maximise the benefits of tutoring!

Classes will cater not only to the best of the best, but also to any students who may have struggled with poor grades in the past and want to improve drastically. For both Bio and Lit, my first SAC’s were only in the 50%-60% range (true story!), and I was absolutely devastated that no matter how hard I was working, my grades just weren't improving. However, through adopting more optimal study strategies and learning how to become a more well-rounded student, I was able to achieve 39/40 in the end of year Lit exam and a 114/120 in the Bio exam ultimately receiving multiple 40+ study scores across the board! I truly believe that with the right guidance, ANYONE, irrespective of their intitial learning capabilities, can perform highly in VCE!

A bit worried about my credentials? No worries! Even though I'm a recent high school graduate, I already have spent the holidays working for a tutoring company and tutoring small-group VCE Biology, VCE Chemistry, and Year 10 English! On top of that, I've regularly had 1-on-1 English classes with three Year 8's throughout Year 12, and even worked as a Kumon assistant from Year 9-11! I truly am passionate about tutoring and I have a track record of doing everything I can to help my students succeed, so rest assured that this is not my first rodeo!

Having had attained a study score of 48 in Biology and 42 in both Chemistry and Literature, I understand first hand just how difficult VCE is when you're aiming high - but as your tutor, I will aim to make your studying a lot more efficient so that you can spend your precious time doing the things you love! Here's the details of how our lessons will run...

1/2 + 3/4 BIOLOGY OR CHEMISTRY

1.5/2 hour class every week, subject to your preferences!
Online or in-person (I live close to Wyndham Vale station so I'm willing to travel if your house is less than 25 minutes away OR you would be happy to meet in the city!)
For the first ~1 hour, we'll be covering content to a much greater extent than your school will, as well as going through all the neat little tips and tricks to help you not only remember but UNDERSTAND this very concept-heavy subject!
Then we'll have a 10 minute break so you can digest what you've just learnt or ask any questions (don't worry, this doesn't count as "class time" and is on top of the 1.5/2 hours devoted to tutoring!)
For the latter portion of class, we'll be doing VCAA exam questions or practice tests together so that you can perfect the wording of your answers according to VCAA assessors! This is ESPECIALLY important for Biology and Chemistry, in which the difference between full marks and partial marks is usually phrasing!
In order to excel, it is not enough to simply rely on school and a weekly tutoring class - that's why I'm more than happy to provide a HUGE drive of external resources that adhere to the 2022-2026 Study Design! I've organised these topic tests, worksheets, practice SACs, graphic organisers, and so on according to their corresponding area of study, making the revision before your SAC's a lot more productive!
On top of these resources, I'll be devoting a significant amount of time to helping you become an independent learner! A successful science student is one who engages with the highest levels of pedagogical thinking and doesn't just rote learn everything, so I'll be prioritising these skills because I want you to perform the best you can :) I've found that some of the most effective ways to guarantee mastery of the content include: mindmapping, active recall, pre-reading, non-linear note taking, etc… So you can bet that I'll teach you these techniques if I tutor you!
We'll stick to a comprehensive class schedule so that you can finish content MUCH earlier than school - always around a week or two ahead - and hence have more buffer time before SACs to clarify any doubts and become an expert in the topic! We'll also start weekly practice exams super early (2 months before the final exam) and I'll be diligent in correcting your written answers, as well as sending you the best resources according to your biggest areas of improvement!
You'll receive 24/7 support for subject specific questions as well as guidance for all aspects of Year 12 (time management, SAC stress, UCAT, Uni, etc…)

And in case you're curious about my Lit Tutoring, here's the details to that!

1/2 + 3/4 LITERATURE
Weekly 1 hour class which can ramp up to being 2 hours before SAC's, as I personally found this to be the best model - Literature is not a content heavy subject so it doesn't require as much class time, and the last thing I want is to charge money for more than you really need! However I want to ensure that you receive as much verbal feedback as possible before a SAC, therefore I'll be happy to extend class time to however long you need it to be! Of course if you would prefer more lessons per week or a longer regular class time, please let me know and we can discuss it further :)
Online or in person (see the details about my location above), however I'd highly discourage in-person tutoring for Lit as 1) the lessons are relatively short so the travel isn't worth your time and 2) we'll be on our laptops for all of class so we might as well just call on zoom
Unlike many of the Lit tutors you'll see online, I'll be tutoring according to the new 2023-2027 Study Design! As I was a part of the first cohort to ever experience this new Study Design, I'm very confident with the structure of your SAC's and how to write compelling essays for both Section A and Section B.
The texts I studied during 3/4 include: Othello, The Yield (I did this for Section A), Stories of Your Life and Others, Smart Ovens for Lonely People, and The Complete Poems by Emily Dickinson (I did this for Section B). I am the most familiar with these texts, but please let me know what your school's list includes and I'll judge on a case-by-case basis whether I'll be able to both read and teach them. Again, I want these lessons to actually be helpful for you, so I'll be sure to let you know whether I'm a compatible tutor or not!
Now for the most amazing part of Lit tutoring: I'll be offering 24/7 essay feedback outside of class, free of cost! Sometimes we can get so caught up with writing according to our teacher's preferences that we forget how to write such that the VCAA examiners will also enjoy your writing, so I'll be there to keep you on the right track! I'll also gently nudge you into writing timed practice essays every now and then, so don't worry at all if you tend to be a bit of a procrastinator - I got you!
No more rude and vague criticism that leaves you wondering how you can improve! Instead, I'll provide constructive criticism about how exactly you can refine all aspects of writing a phenomenal essay including: developing sophisticated interpretations, writing with a cohesive structure, extracting significance from a given passage, analysing using complex metalanguage, etc…
I'll provide you access to a HUGE range of notes, exemplar essays, and secondary material, which is often very underrated. Early exposure to a wide range of ideas and vocabulary is the only way you'll be able to write 2 amazing essays on the spot within the 2 hour timeframe permitted for the final exam, so I'd say this is the main factor that causes the most improvement in Lit students!

Does all of this sound perfect for you? Awesome! Then please message me to discuss any further information and I'll be able to offer a free 30 minute consultation/a free 1 hour class (whichever you prefer!)

I'll be charging $55 an hour for Bio, $45 an hour for Chem, and $40 for Lit. If you are able to organise small group tutoring then I'll be willing to reduce the fees by up to $15 per hour (depending on how many students there are and which subject it is for), but I would definitely recommend either one-on-one or a group of 2 for you to receive the most attention.
