WORK EXPERIENCE
Job title: Geography Tutoring
Duties: I took it upon myself to become a tutor for year 11 students, specifically helping them work towards their GCSE Geography. I helped with both written coursework and exam technique. I developed a range of ways to allow me to cater towards different learning styles. All my students passed with a minimum grade C, but the vast majority gaining higher grades. Duties included of proof reading and marking work, teaching exam techniques, providing revision materials and leading group lessons/ discussions and debates etc.
Job title: Teaching assistant- October 2016- April 2017
Duties: My placement at this secondary school has included of me helping in Geography classes, particularly with year 10s. I have made and taught lessons and helped less able students, including SEN and EAL. It has helped me with my problem solving as I have faced many challenges and have had to overcome them.
Job title: Teaching Assistant- November 2016 (1 week placement.)
Duties: My placement at this primary school allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and work with younger children and to help educate them. As lessons are 1 hour, I aim to keep them fun, informative and active. I want to keep students fully engaged with content, so rather than talking at you for 1 hour like a teacher might do, I will provide a range of activities to ensure that your mind is constantly working and focused.
A typical lesson might start by writing down particular elements of a topic you are struggling with. We will then come up with ways to make this content easier. We will also create revision materials to build up your revision material bank to help you smash your exams! We will have a short discussion about current affairs in the news to keep you aware of how the news will benefit your knowledge and how discussions can help you with essay writing (as it is essentially a discussion you are writing.) We will then finish off by planning an answer to an exam style question and then you can go away and answer it at home. You can bring this in the following week and I will give feedback.
However, lesson structure may vary and I will take your input into consideration.
