About Matthieu

Hello and happy to become your favourite tutor! I am currently a data scientist/machine learning engineer in a company. In the past, I led a team of three other data scientists and had a range of experience in Physics, Maths and data science. I was a Researcher in Data Science at City University of London and The Alan Turing Institute. I pursued a PhD in Engineering at New York University, at the intersection between Physics and Data Science. I also hold a Bachelor degree in Physics and a Master degree in Physics of Complex Systems

Over the past several years, I have had the luck to help students prepare their high school, undergraduate, or graduate exams, as well as help them to land their first Data Science job. During my PhD, I have been the instructor of several classes and complemented my skillsets by attending the NYU Teaching Programme, a semester-long workshop on how to make learning stick In our first lesson, we will clearly define the objectives of our teacher-student partnership, setting both short and medium term milestones. Also, I can adapt my teaching style to make yourself at home, so to let me know any preferences you may have Do not hesitate to contact me for more information, I am looking forward to teach you !

  • Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

My first experience using a computer was when I was around 9 years old. My parents brought home a desktop computer and I was fascinated by it. I spent hours exploring the various applications and playing simple games (and then more complex ones). Since then, I became interested in technology and computers.
  • What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

The technological evolution that has marked me the most is the widespread adoption of the world wide web, smartphones, and mobile devices. These devices have revolutionized the way we communicate, work and access information. In my opinion, the next turning point in this field will be the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning. These technologies have the potential to transform various industries, including healthcare, finance, and transportation.
  • Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

My expertise lies in physics, math, data analysis, and machine learning. I have always been interested in understanding how things work and how to use technology to solve real-world problems. Physics and Math are useful to perform complex reasoning and have a complex idea. In the computer world, software development and data analysis are crucial skills that are in high demand. These skills can be applied to a wide range of industries and can have a significant impact on business operations and decision-making.
  • Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

I am inspired by the innovative and visionary approach of these individuals. However, I also have other role models in the tech industry, including Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web, and Ada Lovelace, who is considered the first computer programmer. Also, I spent quite a lot of time on Einstein, who was truly a remarkable scientist
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One valuable anecdote related to my subject occurred during my time in college when I was working on a group project to analyse a complex problem. Our team had different skill sets and backgrounds, which made it challenging to collaborate effectively. At one point, we hit a roadblock and could not agree on the best approach to move forward. We decided to take a step back and have a team meeting to discuss the problem. During the meeting, we realized that our lack of communication and assumptions about each other's abilities were hindering our progress. We made a plan to address these issues and establish clear goals and expectations. This experience taught me the importance of effective communication and collaboration in software development and the value of diverse perspectives in problem-solving.
  • What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

I would say that while IT may seem complicated at first, with practice and patience, it can become easier. There are many resources available online and in person that can help individuals learn and improve their IT skills. Additionally, IT is a rapidly growing and evolving field, with many opportunities for individuals who have the skills and knowledge to succeed.
  • What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

While my passion and expertise are in IT, I have a wide range of interests outside of the field. One of my favourite hobbies is playing music, and I enjoy playing the guitar, piano, and other instruments in my free time. I also like to read and write, and I am particularly interested in science fiction and fantasy literature. Additionally, I am an avid traveller and love to explore new places and cultures.
  • What makes you a Superprof in IT?

I believe what makes me a Superprof in IT is my passion for the subject, my ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and understandable way, and my experience working in various industries and solving real-world problems using technology. I am also always eager to learn and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
