About Kathryn
I've been teaching and tutoring in all different ways since my own high school days. I love to nerd out about language, and I love to find unique ways to connect with my students through interests, hobbies, and humor! I lived in Granada, Spain and I most recently returned from 2 years living and teaching in Bogota, Colombia. I love to bring in real-life situations and examples to help students see the relevancy of Spanish and language because my old teachers taught this way, and it helped me to find my passion. I majored in Spanish, Linguistics, and Latin American Studies. I have my TESOL/TEFL certificate, as well. I've worked through secondary education courses, and have my own experience from the last 6 years in the classroom. I also work with many students on the spectrum, with NVLD, ADHD, and strong school avoidance/anxiety. I work to create a calm, fun environment to try and make learning a little less daunting!

I prioritize making the classroom or virtual classroom a safe space for students to ask questions. Asking questions is the key to learning and exploration! I focus on the specific interests of the student to connect material to what peaks their curiosity. I make sure to connect lessons to real life to make language truly accessible. I follow the "I do, we do, you do" format. I have taught children as young as 8, I currently teach adolescents, and I've tutored adults on the brink of retirement who want to learn Spanish to live abroad!
