About Jessica
When I was doing my A-levels, my German teacher told me that, although my grammatical accuracy was excellent, the lack of speed with which I spoke German would hold me back from the higher grades. Unfortunately, I could not rewire my brain to prioritise speed over accuracy in time for my oral exam. As a result, I was totally terrified that the exam would be my downfall, on top of the overwhelming nerves that I had already struggled with for years when it came to any kind of speaking exam. On results day, my fears were proven unfounded as I opened my envelope and saw an A*! This shows that there is not just one way of achieving highly in German. Different people have different strengths and your personal strengths will be appreciated if you maximise them.

Immersion is the best way to learn a language, so let's aim to speak German throughout our lesson and use English for clarification! I know how terrifying it can be to speak German. The forethinking it requires for a non-native speaker is intense. I've struggled a lot with confidence throughout my studies, so please know that I want to provide a totally welcoming and forgiving environment for you to practise in. Vocabulary is very important. We'll work on widening it in a way that is targeted to the topics you are studying. We can also focus on any grammatical points of difficulty (this is my personal biggest strength as a tutor). I also have some ready-made resources on hand from my own A-Level to help with revision (don't worry; I was in the first cohort to do the new course, so I know how it all works)!

Jessica is so patient and kind. I feel like I'm free to try my hardest and make mistakes. In that way, I think I'm improving much, much faster than with my old teacher. I got further in the first week than I managed in the last two years! I wish all my teachers were like Jessica.
