About Alena

I hold a bachelor with honours degree in Linguistics (Theory and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures) from Moscow State Pedagogical (Teacher Training) University (2016). I have also received a certificate from Moscow State University Russian Language Centre (2017), qualifying as a teacher of Russian as a foreign language.

I have been teaching languages for more than 7 years. I am proud to say that I am truly passionate about my profession and what I do. Prior to moving to the UK, I was teaching English. I also have experience in preparing students for examinations at the University of Edinburgh.

I try to advance in my profession, constantly improving my materials, skills, methods, techniques and knowledge. I make my own materials, flashcards and exercises. I also dedicate a fair amount of time to learning new methods, techniques and self-improving.

About the lesson

Hello, my name is Alena and I am fully-qualified and experienced Russian as a foreign teacher. Russian is my native language and I will be happy to assist you in learning it.

I offer one-to-one and group lessons online (via Skype).

My approach to teaching:
First Lesson Is Free. Meet before you commit! I want to give my students an opportunity to get to know me before they have to commit to anything. The duration of this lesson is usually about one hour, and it is dedicated to getting acquainted and testing your skills and abilities.
Place. I can offer one-to-one Russian language lessons in Edinburgh and Fife and online tutoring (Skype, Discord and other means of communication) as well.
Materials. Books and resources are provided by me. You will also receive digital and printed materials and assignments. My students have access to my grammar and vocabulary flashcards, that help you learn and memorise more effectively. I am also collecting useful resources and websites and I am happy to share that collection with you.

My principles and goals as a teacher:
Friendly and healthy environment during the lessons.
Personal approach reflecting my students' abilities, goals and interests.
Interesting and engaging lessons with a variety of activities.
Dedicating some to speaking during every lesson, gradually moving towards speaking Russian only.
Focusing not only on grammar and vocabulary, but also on pronunciation skills.
Teaching how the language works, providing in-depth understanding of its system and rules in a simple way.
Using a combination of traditional and modern materials and ways of learning.
Teaching how to think in the language spoken.
Providing my students with information about Russia and our culture and traditions.
