About Sophia
I am pursuing my Honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences at Western University. I finished my first year on the Dean’s List (80%+ average). In my program I am studying biology, chemistry and physics. Studied sciences and maths in high school to prepare for this university path. In addition, I taught students of all ages throughout my high school career as both a private tutor and a swim and lifesaving instructor. I have worked with children as young as 3 years old up to children 15 years of age.

As a former swim instructor, I value individual teaching methods for each client I work with. I will engage with the student in any method that works best for them. One student might need a concept explained to them in depth, whereas another student might need to read about the concept independently before I discuss it with them. I will use my first session with a student to get to know them and how they learn best. I always ensure that I teach with enthusiasm and relate concepts to every day situations. Asking why and how things occur in every day life is crucial for understanding, especially in biology and sciences. If the topic is biological, I find modelling the concept while explaining helps many students. I will also come prepared with mock tests/assignments to give the student soon after mastering a concept for immediate feedback on how well the student is grasping the content I am delivering.
