About Shiza
Hi there! I’m Shiza, an honor roll Life Sciences student at the University of Toronto. I know what it’s like to struggle with understanding the basics—throughout high school, I often had to teach myself difficult concepts, and that experience has shaped the way I now help others learn. I’ve worked as a tutor at a learning academy, teaching preschool to middle school students in math and English. I also participated in the Licensed to Learn program, where I tutored high school students one-on-one across a range of subjects. I’m proud to have earned my Licensed to Learn certification, making me an officially certified peer tutor. I love building real connections with students and helping them reach those “aha!” moments. I'm passionate about making learning feel less overwhelming and more empowering. Outside of tutoring, I’m a huge animal lover (future vet in the making!), and I enjoy reading, video games, movies, TV shows, and, of course, shopping. I’m excited to get to know you and support you however I can on your learning journey!

As someone who has worked one-on-one with a wide range of students, I’ve learned how to read each individual and figure out what works best for them. Teaching is never a “one size fits all” approach. Before we begin tutoring, I conduct a short diagnostic assessment to understand where the student stands, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and how they learn most effectively. I’m skilled at adapting my teaching style to meet different needs, using techniques such as real-world applications, visual aids, and guided practice. If a student is stuck on a concept, I take a step back and revisit foundational skills with patience until everything clicks. A typical lesson includes a quick review of previous material, a clear introduction of new content, time for questions, guided practice, and optional homework depending on the student’s goals and preferences. My lessons are for students from preschool to high school, whether they’re struggling with science or simply looking to strengthen their understanding. I believe tutoring isn’t just about teaching content—it’s about building confidence, critical thinking, and learning skills that help students thrive beyond the classroom.
