I believe that most difficulties understanding Biology or Chemsitry stem from misunderstanding of some of the more basic principles, so I like to start by checking the basic principles are solid before moving onto the more advanced ideas, which I like to approach in a visual way to build an understanding of what is physically happening rather than just learning bare facts. Once the understanding is there it will be much easier to remember the information for exams.
