About the lesson

A singer’s development is not linear—it’s dynamic, responsive, and deeply personal. My teaching approach is designed to support this fluid process through four guiding principles: Communication, Creativity, Cultural Sensitivity, and Accountability. From the very first lesson, we engage in open communication about your aspirations, current challenges, and how you like to learn. I make sure you always understand why we’re doing what we’re doing, and I adjust our path based on your feedback and progress.

Creativity is what keeps the work inspired. I integrate artistic exploration through metaphor, movement, improvisation, and genre blending. Whether you’re imagining your sound as a landscape or crafting a character’s backstory, these techniques allow you to find emotional access points that unlock new colors in your voice. Cultural sensitivity shapes how we engage with repertoire. I encourage students to learn about the origins of the songs they sing—language, style, history, and social context—as a means of honoring the music and performing it with integrity.

I also support students in building a song library that represents their identity and perspective, encouraging both respect and self-expression. Accountability ensures consistency and momentum. I guide you with personalized practice plans, feedback loops that include self-assessment tools, and regular check-ins that map your growth. This structure allows you to clearly see how your efforts translate into progress. Technical instruction is always present—we’ll work on things like vowel tuning, vibrato control, agility, breath support, and style-appropriate ornamentation—but the deeper goal is to integrate these skills into performances that feel alive, honest, and memorable.
