About George
I hold extensive knowledge in classroom management and various teaching methods so I am able to reach learners of all backgrounds. I enjoy helping teenagers to reach their academic goals and gain an understanding of mathematical concepts. My lesson plans employ fun and creativity along with the concepts that are to be taught. Students find that I am an innovative teacher who uses a number of teaching methods and styles in order to produce effective results. In addition to my experience and personal qualities, I have a solid educational foundation and a passion for educating. I worked as a lecturer and program coordinator where I have been able to further strengthen my soft and technical skills. Currently I work as Software development Engineer in testing where I use JavaScript and Cypress to automate test cases. Being a hard working and well-rounded educator, I welcome the opportunity to meet you to discuss how my extensive experience, collaborative nature, and innovative classroom skills would benefit you.

I have 22 years of experience in teaching math and 7 years of informatics. I’ve worked 15 years in middle and high schools and last 7 years in university. I lead 10 years high school math Olympiad teams. Currently I tutor for high school and university students all math and programming related courses. Teaching and learning are worked together. Every instructor is expected to teach students how to build up and strengthen their analytical and critical thinking skills and where to apply these skills to real-life situations. Analytical and critical-thinking skills are key elements to the intellectual and professional development of any person. To achieve an effective learning process I take into consideration the following teaching aspects: 1. Individual differences: each student is unique, deserves special attention, and needs to be continuously motivated and rewarded throughout the learning process. 2. Teamwork: group interaction in terms of sharing and confronting ideas prepares students to take part in collaborative projects. 3. Transparent guidance: the instructor should let students experience new things, oversee their progress at distance, and know exactly when to step into students’ experiences. I believe that teaching is a passion and not just a duty. Teaching is how to open up and maintain trustful communication channels with students, how to make students understand concepts and apply them, how to make students be proud of their achievements, and last but not least how to make students plan their careers and futures. My philosophy of teaching is student-centric; it embraces the aforementioned aspects and has evolved over the years in response to the situations I have been exposed to throughout my career. I am continuously concerned with how I should improve my teaching, update my course materials, enhance students’ skills and abilities inside and outside the classroom, and enrich their knowledge with whatever it takes to meet today’s challenges. I regularly engage in professional development activities. This has given me the opportunity to stay informed about the latest techniques and best practices in teaching around the world. Students always know that I will get back to them (e.g., by Learning Management systems) within a reasonable time frame. I rely a lot on my international background and education as well as research expertise to be close to students so that I understand their concerns, mentor their progress, and tune in my lectures in response to factors such as critical thinking skills and subject complexity. leadership Because I take into account the individual differences that characterize students in terms of levels of motivation, anxiety, personality, intelligence, etc., I approach instructor-student interaction from three interrelated perspectives, which basically promote critical thinking, self learning, and active classroom. These three perspectives can easily be mapped onto the three teaching aspects I mentioned earlier. First, students should be able to discern facts and evaluate alternatives prior to making decisions. They also should be able to reflect on their experiences to form a solid judgment. Second, students should know that acquiring knowledge is a long lasting process that never ends, and every day is a new opportunity to learn more. They also should know that knowledge by itself is not useful unless it is put in practice. Finally students should have an active role inside and outside the classroom. Blending critical thinking, self learning, and active classroom perspectives would result into students who can draw conclusions from successful and unsuccessful experiences, can learn without continuous guidance, and can take on and accept leadership roles and challenges, respectively. Information technology is a vibrant field that changes on a daily basis. This puts a lot of pressure on instructors to remain updated in their teaching and research interests. To integrate these changes into my courses I always review my material, introduce students advanced concepts and apply any new technique I have come across in the literature or professional development workshops. Independently of the expertise level of an instructor, there is always room for new concepts to learn, new techniques to test, and new experiences to learn out of. The continuous update of my courses is also backed by a regular self-assessment exercise. In conclusion, students will always look up to instructors and inspire them. Therefore, I need to set high standards, promote intellectual diversity, and behave in a professional way. The privileged interactions that instructors have with students give them the opportunity to shape students’ personal lives and professional careers.
