About Zack

I graduated from Tufts University in Boston with a degree in Economics. Before working in the education industry, I was in California working for Pacific Gas and Electric, a northern CA utility company. I enjoyed my early career at PG&E, but after helping students in a part-time capacity, I knew my true calling was to help motivated people achieve academic success.
When not tutoring, I like to ice skate, hike, read, spend time with family, and do some light and personal studing on subjects like Physics and Philisophy.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on providing the most value for an hour of time, and I have found addressing homework a key first step in understanding strengths and weaknesses of students, and it provides students with an incentive to keep their focus. During homework help, if students repeatedly struggle with a question type (say balancing an algebraic equation), then we will immediately address that skill through explanations, more example questions, and having students verbally repeat concepts using their own words. If all a student needs is a quick review, then we continue with the homework. However, if understanding takes longer, we will spend as much time as we need to address knowledge gaps.
For students with full mastery of their current homework, tests, and quizzes, I offer extra exercises using free or premium online education platforms (mostly Khan Academy). These tools help expand students’ math concepts, identify weaknesses, and, most importantly, seamlessly integrate standardized testing concepts, which I think all students should be preparing for, no matter how distant the test is. This approach has served my students well as it allows them to have clear goals, maintain focus, and enables me to see and address students' weak points quickly and easily.

Deadly! Zack was great I was not paying attention in stats at all and in 2 sessions he helped me go from knowing very little to getting a 97 on my project and 85 on my test. Without his help I would’ve for sure failed both!!

Deadly! Zack was amazing! He did an hour review with my daughter for a math final that she was really worried about. He explained everything so thoroughly she was able to really process the material and she ended up getting 100% on the test! Definitely recommend and will use him again!
