About Ava

After watching the students I've tutored through private and voluntary programs such as Peer Tutoring develop the skills and confidence to push their academic comfort zones, I believe my interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to different learning styles lends me to be an ideal academic and musical mentor. I received the 2022 UQ Achievement Award for consistent high academic achievement and community service leadership, and my role as Social Justice Captain has furthered my eagerness to give back in every way I can so students have every opportunity, support, and guidance to succeed. The knowledge I've acquired throughout my schooling has allowed me to dux English, complete internal assessment with an average of 99% across all subjects, finish Year 12 with an average of 97%, and get into medical school. I want to share my learnings and experiences to empower others to be the best scholars they can be, and the patience and enthusiasm I’ve harboured through piano teaching, paired with the empathy and communication skills fostered through leadership and service, will allow me to guide you to achieving the results you want. Fulfilling the role of an academic and musical mentor is an excellent opportunity to equip others to achieve their dreams and is an area I'm passionate about.

I provide enthusiastic and personalised lessons where the resources, depth of content, and approaches are tailored to the individual's unique abilities, goals and learning style. I generally tutor high school students and teach piano to primary school students.
Private tutoring (1-2h):
Before each lesson, the student can provide topics they want to focus on and what tasks they need help with. I prepare a session plan so the student achieves their objectives, and provide them with resources and techniques to practice. If students are seeking assignment feedback, I can make comments on their assignment prior to the lesson, and then meet to work on improvements.
Group sessions (1-2h):
Groups range from 2-4people and focus on a particular subject. These sessions are most effective with friends or people at similar stages in their content learning. We go through questions students have flagged and relevant questions I've sourced, and every group member contributes their approach, creating a collaborative learning environment. Assignment help sessions involve discussions about marking guides and ways to improve each member's response to their task. These sessions encourage important team skills and allow students to build off a shared pool of knowledge.
Piano tutoring (30-45min):
Piano lessons focus on developing a love for music, rhythmic coordination, music theory, and aural skills. The diverse repertoire, duet playing, and combination of singing and other instrument accompaniment means my students not only walk out of lessons equipped with deep musical knowledge and transferrable skills, but also with a passion for expressing themselves through music. I offer a range of lesson styles, from AMEB exam preparation, to relaxed piano playing to popular artists, depending on the goals of the student.
