About Maxwell
Hi, my name is Max!
I'm a recent A-level graduate from Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet with A*s in Maths and Further Maths and 10 A*s at GCSE.
I have experience preparing for and taking the MAT, STEP, and TMUA exams, so I understand where students often find challenges and how to develop strategies to overcome them.
I’m eager to share my knowledge, experience and tips, and help students at all levels. I have also tutored Chemistry and Physics at GCSE and A-Level, and created popular revision notes for History and Economics.
My schedule is flexible and I am willing to accommodate to individual needs, whether that be longer lessons, multiple lessons a week, or during holidays.

I like to keep my lesson structure flexible, so that each student can receive help in the areas they need most. At the start of each lesson, I ask if there’s anything in particular they would like to focus on, whether that’s a specific topic, exam technique, or a practice paper.
When tackling a new or challenging topic, I like to talk about the reasons and origins of the methods used, so my students understand why they are doing something, not just how. I always provide fully worked examples alongside explanations of why we do each step. I often use an interactive whiteboard so we can both share our workings. If a student doesn’t have a device, I simply share my workings and diagrams on the screen, as I believe visualisation is an essential part of maths and problem solving.
I include a portion of supervised practice, where I ask my students to work through questions out loud. This allows me to check that they not only know the steps to take, but also the underlying reasons. I encourage students to explore different approaches to questions, offer their ideas, and feel comfortable making mistakes. I also aim to revisit previous topics regularly to reinforce knowledge and ensure consistent progress.
