Many students, especially in secondary school, struggle to see the value of learning maths. It's one of the hardest subjects but is also one of the most rewarded, simply doing higher-level maths will give you an extra 15 points in the leaving cert but this doesn’t provide a lot of motivation. However, maths or learning any stem-based subject has been shown to increase a wide range of skills and brain capacity. Learning maths will also help you calculate the day-to-day arithmetic we all have to do, comparing values is something our brains struggle at naturally but with practice we can quickly compare the volume to cost to really evaluate how good the “deals” are.
Leaving cert maths is difficult all over and it’s no different in Sligo. If you want to do well in maths then you’ll have to learn a few skills and build some good habits. Getting outside help would also help. Statistics, probability, calculus, geometry and algebra are just some of the difficult subjects that students all across Sligo have to learn. Having a good workflow with a dedicated study routine will help immensely. However, the best thing that will help any student is to recruit a tutor that will work with them to improve all aspects of maths. Questions in maths are common and with many students to a class in Sligo, there is either often not a lot of time or there is a lot of stress which both prevent asking crucial questions. Tutors can get around this, as much time as the student needs can be dedicated to answering these important overlooked questions and any potential questions or help required for an assignment. With this amount of support, you’ll see your grades start to improve immediately. Discipline is one of the hardest things to develop during the leaving cert, but a tutor will help with commitment and discipline. It's a lot harder to avoid doing your homework when you have essentially a tutor looking over you making sure that you’re getting your work done. Plus a regular weekly session will ensure that you get at least an hour of high-quality work done every week.
Maths is absolutely doable by yourself but it can be tedious. Problems are plenty and the material never ends. There is also the problem of misunderstandings, it's common for students to believe they have grasped a concept when they encounter an edge case or a tricky problem. Questions are a common motif in french and there is a reason for that, it is a complex subject that requires a lot of foundational knowledge to build up the more complex chapters. That's why unless you’re learning the basic foundations of maths or you’re just revising junior or leaving cert maths, it is highly recommended that you take classes, join an online course or even find a tutor right here in Sligo.
You are the one hiring the tutor so that means at the end of the day you decide exactly what you want to do in your grinds and where you want to do them. You can do them from the comfort of your home in Sligo, maybe go to a cafe in the town or even go for the cheaper and more convenient option of online lessons. Most tutors on Superprof offer online grinds and with all the features available you won’t have any issues finding your tutor.
Superprof is a large platform that offers tutors for almost every conceivable topic and in this case, there is a tutor for every level of maths, from primary school to even surprisingly a doctorate level of maths. Most of these professional tutors who have been vetted can be accessed online but a large number are based in Sligo and are easy to find thanks to Superprof! Simply navigate to the search bar at the top of this page, click on the button and select your level, then put in an address, yours or nearby and find all the best tutors near you.
