About Megan
Hi there! I'm Megan :) I'm a graduate from Brown University with a master's degree in computer science, and I would LOVE to be your tutor. I think math and science are pretty freaking cool, but that's okay if you don't feel that way (yet). We're going to explore the beauty of the world together by studying its logic and rules. I have been teaching for over 10 years, in a variety of different styles and environments. I've been a computer science TA who has stayed up late to help students debug and understand their code, I've been a volunteer online tutor for high school physics students who felt lost and confused but were able to make sense of all those equations after we found the right approach, and I've been a math tutor in group and one-on-one settings, patiently working through assignments and practice problems with stressed students. I do my best to not only make sure you succeed in your assignments or projects, but walk away with a strong foundation and deep understanding of concepts that will stay with you as you move forward. I make myself very available: late into the night, last-minute, multiple times a week before a big test we need to study for, you name it. It is my priority to give you the confidence and skills to tackle problems in these difficult subjects. I am flexible, patient, creative, and enthusiastic and hope you'll give me the opportunity to support you in your academic career!

I like to start by assessing your goals and needs as a student, whether it's support in homework assignments, getting ahead, reviewing and studying, or filling in holes from previous courses. This will inform the kind of lessons we do, and whether or not we need a strict lesson plan or can play it by ear based on what you need for that session.
I often employ a socratic method in my teaching to guide students to finding solutions on their own, rather than giving answers or forcing a rote memorization. If one approach is not resonating with you, I will find another, catered to the way you learn best, and sometimes that means getting creative with it! I make sure to keep students engaged with visuals and interactivity, and I ask questions along the way to test knowledge and keep track of previous mistakes to reinforce new habits.
I am passionate about the subjects I teach, I think they are such an interesting look into the world around us, and I like to share that passion with my students and get them excited about how cool knowledge can be. I am also an excellent explainer of concepts, and a strong debugger.
I teach a wide range of subjects from arithmetic and mental math to calculus and linear algebra, physics, computer vision, and object-oriented programming. I am suited to teach elementary through undergrad.
I think my strongest feature is that I will stay right with you until we have broken through to a solution, on a problem set or on a bug or a concept you feel confused about, you will never feel abandoned with me.
I hope you'll consider me as your tutor!

My daughter has tremendous testing anxiety but since working with Megan over the years she has gained such confidence in herself. With the help of Megan she was able to get an A in AP Calculus and score a 5 on the AP test. What amazing skills and confidence she has given my daughter . As a mom I’m truly grateful.
Megan was my TA in university — I was struck by Megan's patience and absolute dedication to student support: to sticking with me, walking through the material step by step to identify my errors and underlying misunderstandings, and making sure I got the help I needed to continue the course with a solid foundation of understanding.
Megan was one of my teaching assistants for my Introduction to Computer Graphics course at Brown University. That's a subject that touches on a whole bunch of different areas of math: calculus, linear algebra, statistics, physics, ... I could go on. I remember Megan as being a much-beloved TA that semester: she was excellent at enthusiastically (and patiently) explaining complex topics to students, sympathizing with their struggles, and celebrating their successes. If you're looking for someone to demystify complex or scary math concepts, and to do so in a fun, welcoming environment, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone better than Megan.
Megan has been tutoring me for over 8 years at this point, particularly with math courses included but not limited to geometry, calculus, and statistics as well as programming courses. She continuously goes out of her way to not only ensure she’s explaining how to solve a problem or understand an overarching concept in a way that I specifically understand, if there are any holes in my knowledge within the subject she fills those for me as we go. Her tutoring tactics and patience make it incredibly easy to make the scary topics and fear of understanding new information much easier. There is not one single bad thing I can say about this tutor. I highly recommend her, and know you will be satisfied with her tutoring abilities.
Megan helped me with math from elementary school level to college level calculus and statistics. She is very patient and helpful. She goes above and beyond explaining things in different ways until you understand if you don’t get it at first. I highly recommend as she helped me understand and excel.
