FAQ's

🎤 What is the least common singing voice?

The countertenor is widely considered the rarest voice type.

Singers are grouped into categories based on how high or low they can comfortably sing.

  • Soprano – women with the highest range, often leading roles in opera
  • Mezzo-soprano – a middle female voice, warmer than soprano
  • Alto – the lowest common female voice, deep and resonant
  • Tenor – the top male classification in most choirs
  • Baritone – the most common male voice, versatile and warm
  • Bass – the lowest male voice, powerful and grounding
  • Countertenor – the rarest type, requiring exceptional control

Finding your voice type helps you choose songs that suit your natural strengths.

💰 What do singing lessons cost in Navan?

The average price for a singing lesson in Navan is around €40/h.

Prices shift based on a few key elements.

  • Whether you're a beginner or preparing for exams (casual hobby, Grade exams, performance coaching)
  • The teacher's experience and qualifications (years of teaching, performance credits, certifications)
  • Lesson length and frequency (30, 45, or 60 minutes weekly or fortnightly)
  • How you take your lessons (in-person at home, at the teacher's studio, or online)

Packages and term bookings often bring the hourly cost down.

Online lessons can be more affordable and save travel time.

A first free session lets you assess the teacher's style risk-free.

🎵 Can you learn to sing without a teacher?

Yes, you can learn singing basics on your own, though a teacher accelerates progress and prevents bad habits.

The fundamentals of singing are learnable through consistent, focused practice.

  • Breath support – engaging the muscles below your lungs for steady, powerful sound
  • Pitch accuracy – matching notes reliably by training your ear
  • Resonance – amplifying your voice by shaping space in your mouth and throat
  • Posture and relaxation – keeping shoulders down and neck loose

Apps, online courses, and recording yourself can guide early progress.

Learn to sing with the help of a private vocal teacher on Superprof

Is there a “best” age to start singing at?

Our tutor’s philosophy is that as long as you want to learn how to sing, that’s the only thing that matters. Singing is not an age-restrictive hobby. What matters is your interest and passion to learn and practice and as long as you keep continuing with it you will improve and learn.

Our tutors happily provide grinds/lessons for all ages and many are beginner friendly too and are happy to help those just starting out, as well as experienced singers who are looking to improve further or hope to get some feedback in preparation for a performance or exam.

So, if you want to start learning today or know someone who does, there is nothing preventing you from doing so and learning a whole new, fun passion!

How do the classes work?

Most of our tutors like to first learn about the student’s goals, when they know what you want to learn or improve, they can then start designing a learning program for you. Depending on exactly what it is that you want to learn, you may learn about musical theory, doing and learning exercises to train your voice and endurance. Learning how to reach certain sounds or even learning about how to sing along to music or an instrument that you play.

There are many things that our tutors can help you with, it all depends on what you want to get out of your classes.

Most tutors teach both online classes and in-person ones, so it's generally up to you on what type you would prefer. Some find the flexibility of online classes to be preferable. Much easier to fit them in as neither the tutor or yourself has to spend time travelling somewhere. Depending on what you aim to learn, online classes could be a better fit, but if it helps you have the physical presence of your tutor and you are focusing on learning about pitch, tone etc, then doing the classes face to face would probably be better.

Are the classes taught in groups?

It's extremely rare for our tutors to teach students in groups. Doing classes with only one student allows our tutors to dedicate their full attention to the student over the course of the class, which means you’ll make much faster progress as a student and the full time of the class can be spent on helping you to progress on your own learning goals. Not every singing student or learner is at the same level so it’s much more efficient this way.

However, some tutors are open to teaching groups or multiple people if you are interested in doing singing lessons with a friend or someone that you know. Some tutors state this in their profile, but if they don’t, then feel free to contact the tutor and ask if group session are possible or not.

Is there lots of availability?

Our tutors are kept fairly busy, but there are enough singing tutors for everyone who is hoping to learn. You can see how many students a tutor has by looking at their profile. There are over 20 singing tutors around the country and with the availability of online lessons, you can avail of their help even if you don’t live close by to them.

If you are concerned about the availability of the tutor that you hope to get help from, just send a message to them and they will happily tell you what the schedule with them would be like and how often they can see you.
