About
Hi, I'm Layne and I'd love to help you gain knowledge and confidence with your English language skills!
My tutoring ethos centers creating a safe, shame-free space for students to learn and communicate honestly with me about their learning needs and challenges. I genuinely value adapting what and how I teach to each student's individual needs and goals.
I tutor a wide range of specialties--from test prep to business/professional English to speaking and conversation--and my current clients include elementary school students as well as professionals from Google and KPMG. **I achieved a perfect score on the verbal section of the SAT and tutor on test-taking strategies to complement English language subject matter.**
I have bachelor's and master's degrees in English and several years' teaching and tutoring experience with students as young as kindergarten through adulthood, including ESL students. My teaching and tutoring experience includes:
- Working as a classroom aide for elementary school classrooms, where I provided assignment help and led small reading groups
- Working as a classroom aide for middle and high school homerooms specifically for ESL students, where I provided assignment help including feedback on high school research papers and essays
- Working as a teaching assistant in undergraduate English and humanities classes, including leading discussion groups, teaching reading comprehension and critical thinking about texts, and leading creative writing workshops
- Tutoring ESL clients working in business and tech on professional English including language for giving presentations, interview prep, appropriate small talk for the workplace, and more
