About Gemma
I love making learning fun above anything else, and meaningful to the individual. This can mean attending sessions in fancy dress or playing silly games. I am also diagnosed with both Autism and ADHD myself so I have a personal perspective and it is important for me to be an advocate for neurodivergent students. I also think it's very important to openly share your own strengths and weaknesses in order to build a genuine working relationship.

I have been a SEND tutor, specialising in Autism since 2002 when I trained as a behavioural therapist. Over time I realised I wanted a more neuro-affirming approach and have since branched off to offer a focus on wellbeing and discovering identity. I can offer online sessions with older children, in one-hour or two-hour slots. I can also offer face-to-face within the Brighton and Hove area. I have a degree in Psychology and I have worked across various nurseries and primary schools in London and Brighton. I have also worked in home settings in a 1:1 capacity. I mostly work within the primary age range but I currently have a year 9 pupil who I support online for school, and I would be happy to offer wellbeing support to older teens. Sessions vary from student to student depending on their strengths and focus areas so there is no set methodology for teaching. I have found it is better to adapt to individual style, although my varied experience does mean I often have ready-to-go strategies and activities.
