Deadly! I studied with him for some time, and it was one of the most valuable learning experiences I’ve had. Instead of just showing me what to play, he helped me understand how music actually works. We focused a lot on creativity, improvisation, and piano arrangement, and that completely changed how I approached both jazz and other styles like pop and rock.
What stood out was how he adapted everything to my level. In the beginning, I worked on creative exercises, reading, and coordination, and as I improved, we moved more into improvisation and analysis. We always used repertoire, but in a way that helped me think and understand, not just repeat.
He has a very strong background as he taught at the University of Minnesota and the American University in Cairo, and it seems like he has been teaching music for decades.
After studying with him, I became much more independent. I was able to learn music on my own, felt more confident playing with others, and understood what I was doing. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to really understand music and become more creative, not just follow instructions.
