About Afrodita

- What kind of experience do you have?

For the last 20 years, I have been a professor of music theory and composition at Prague Conservatoire, International Conservatoire, Jaroslav Jezek Jazz Conservatoire and Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
I have extensive teaching experience with preparing students from various countries for entry auditions and final exams (BMus, MMus, ABRSM,Trinity Grades). I have taught the violin ,music theory,composition and conducting for many years.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I do not currently have it as I do not hold a teaching position at a school at present.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Currently studying PhD in Composition at the University of Edinburgh.
In 2015-16-a PhD student in Composition at the University of York.
In Czech Republic - MMus in Composition with renowned composers Miloslav Istvan, Alois Pinos, Pavel Blatny, Ctirad Kohoutek at Janaczek Academy of Performing Arts.
In Bulgaria Music Academy- violin with Elena Geneva, Anton Hadjiatanasov and conducting with Vladi Simeonov.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Assotiation of Czech Composers.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

My former students are now studying at universities, to name a few - City Univeristy in London, University of York, University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and Brno, Czech Republic, etc.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

Currently PhD student in Composition at the University of Edinburgh.
In 2015-2016 a PhD student in Composition at the University of York.
Janacek Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, Czech Republic - composition, MMus with First Class
Music Conservatoire and Music Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria - violin and conducting.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £30/h and £20/30mins for all subjects. I am happy to offer half price consultation lesson.

- Where do you teach?

I teach mainly at home but can also travel within Edinburgh area. I also teach online.

- When are you available?

Generally all week days and weekend from 10am to 6pm. Negotiable.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

All ages and levels, from beginners to professionals. Children from the age of 4.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

All levels of ABRSM and Trinity.
Entry auditions for Conservatories and Universities, degree exams etc. Knowledge in all European music systems.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I use Skype for online face-to-face teaching for instrumental/theory/composition teaching. I also use email for sending/recieving scanned materials such as pdf /pictures. I have several years of experience teaching online and have found this method to be useful and successful for instrument teaching and theory/composition also. Teaching sessions (frequency and duration) are flexible between 60-90 minutes.

My students learn easily and with joy :)!
