About Esme

I have 11 years of experience teaching chess and hold a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Master’s in Cognitive Science. My academic background deepened my understanding of logical reasoning and mental processing strategies. Over time, I have coached students preparing for tournaments as well as those learning chess for personal growth.

I believe chess instruction should combine structure with encouragement. I adjust lesson difficulty according to each student’s ability and provide clear explanations that simplify complex ideas. Watching learners improve their concentration and planning skills motivates me greatly.

Outside coaching, I continue studying classical and modern chess games to stay updated with evolving strategies. Chess remains an important intellectual pursuit in my life. I am committed to guiding students towards disciplined thinking, improved performance, and greater confidence at the board.

About the lesson

My chess lessons focus on developing strong analytical skills and disciplined decision-making. I begin by teaching core opening principles such as piece coordination, centre control, and king safety. Students learn how to evaluate positions calmly before committing to a move. I explain strategies step by step in simple English so learners clearly understand the reasoning behind each choice. Early sessions emphasise avoiding common mistakes and recognising basic tactical patterns.

As students progress, we work on deeper tactical themes including forks, pins, discovered attacks, and defensive calculations. Puzzle practice strengthens pattern recognition and calculation accuracy. We also study endgame techniques such as king activity, pawn promotion strategy, and rook coordination. After every practice game, I guide detailed analysis to highlight strengths and areas that need improvement. This reflective approach builds awareness and confidence.

My goal is to help students remain patient and focused during competition. Chess teaches logical thinking, emotional control, and long-term planning. Through structured training and consistent feedback, learners develop sharper strategy and stronger board confidence. I create a motivating environment where improvement feels clear and achievable.
