About Carson

I have lived in several countries throughout my lifetime including to study linguistics, so I've become very familiar with the common mistakes that English learners struggle with, and have had the opportunity to teach people from around the world, of all ages and levels, for the last two years since finishing my education.
Linguistics is my passion, so helping people learn languages naturally aligns with my interests, especially those looking to learn more of the linguistic approach to learning languages. I also have a degree in history, and I believe studying different histories and cultures also helps when people learn a language to experience that culture.
Communicating in a new language can open so many opportunities, and being confident enough in your language abilities to take advantage of those opportunities is my goal for our lessons.

About the lesson

I like to teach practical uses of language, the way native speakers actually use the language and not just the textbook answers. This includes how and when to be literal or metaphorical, slang knowledge, specialized terms for academics or business or whatever your focus is, and how people pronounce words in regular speech.
I have been teaching English and Spanish for about two years now, both online and in person, to people from various countries and languages, from children to adults. In addition, I have had a lot of education through a master's degree in linguistics that focused on language acquisition and how our minds comprehend and utilize second language knowledge alongside our native language.
My lessons are best suited for teenage or adult students who have their own language goals and motivation, and typically include pragmatics and phonetics lessons that explain how to use the language in a way that is most practical to meet their goals, whether it's for education, work, tourism, or communicating with friends and family.
