About 群轶

I am a native Mandarin speaker from Beijing. I am majoring in Chinese translation and interpreting, and English as an international language at the University of Queensland. I master the features and history of Chinese language and language acquisition theories. In the past year, I volunteered as a Chinese lecturer/tutor to help about 20 Australian university students with their Chinese proficiency. I also became a private Chinese tutor to help around 10 students with their Chinese. Now I am teaching an Australian friend and my professor Chinese at school. As I have more teaching experience, I got to know more common problems Chinese learners will have. Also, in order to learn more teaching techniques, I joined other foreign language classes and observed classes in a community Chinese school. Apart from studying and teaching, I have participated in research targeting on education, cross-cultural communication and diversity. Additionally, due to the interests in Chinese textbooks and the relatively high bilingual skills, I was selected to be a summer research scholar to work with a UQ professor and doing lots of Chinese-English translations. Thanks to these experiences, my language, translation and communication skills have been improved, which will be definitely super helpful for my future language learning, teaching and researching.

About the lesson

Language exposure is essential for language learning, so if possible, I will speak more Mandarin than English in class. I prefer student-centered classes. In my class, there will be more interactions and activities (e.g, role-play, story-telling, matching game) and I encourage students to practice, make mistakes and ask questions, keeping students’ passion for learning Chinese.
