About Peter

I am a highly experienced educator based in Padstow Heights, Sydney, with a 36-year teaching career. A significant portion of my recent professional life—the last six years—has been dedicated to working as a casual teacher within Learning Support units in the NSW public school system.

Beyond the classroom, I have a deep appreciation for precision, logic, and the wonders of the universe, with interests ranging from the mechanics of theoretical physics and cosmology to the efficiency of Japanese transit and culture.

Why I Mentor
My drive to mentor stems from a career transition, where I aim to translate decades of "boots-on-the-ground" classroom experience into a more focused, personal impact.

Here is why I am stepping into this role:

The Power of Experience: After 36 years, I have seen every side of the education system. I understand the nuances of how students learn differently and, more importantly, where the system often falls short in supporting neurodivergent individuals.

A Neuro-Affirming Vision: I am motivated to reframe the conversation around autism. I've expressed a clear stance against viewing it as a "disorder" to be fixed; instead, I want to help kids and adults navigate the world with dignity and self-advocacy.

Bridging the Gap: Having worked extensively in Learning Support, I know how to navigate the "red tape" of the public school system. I want to use that knowledge to guide families and individuals who might feel overwhelmed by those same hurdles.

A Legacy of Support: I am at a stage where I want to build a professional brand that reflects my expertise.

In short, I want to mentor because I possess a rare combination of veteran institutional knowledge and a modern, respectful philosophy toward neurodiversity—and I recognise that there is a significant need for mentors who truly "get it."

# Professional Profile: Educational Mentor & Consultant

With over **36 years of classroom experience**—including extensive work in specialized Learning Support units—I offer a seasoned, neuro-affirming approach to mentoring. My practice is built on the belief that every individual possesses a unique cognitive architecture that deserves respect, not just "management."

I transition from decades of public and private school service to dedicated mentoring, focusing on empowering both students and adults to navigate a neurotypical world while maintaining their authentic selves.

---

# Core Philosophy
My mentoring style is defined by **competence and dignity**. I actively move away from outdated "disorder-based" models. I don’t see puzzles to be solved; I see individuals with specific strengths and communication styles that are often overlooked in traditional settings.

# Areas of Expertise
* **Educational Advocacy:** Navigating the complexities of the school system, particularly within Learning Support frameworks, to ensure students receive meaningful accommodations.
* **Executive Functioning Support:** Developing practical, real-world strategies for daily tasks that align with how an autistic mind actually processes information.
* **Career & Life Transitions:** Guiding adults and young people through the pivotal shift from school to the workforce or higher education.
* **Neuro-Affirming Environments:** Consulting on how to adapt physical and social spaces—whether at home or in the classroom—to reduce sensory overwhelm and promote focus.

# Why Work With Me?
* **Deep Experience:** Very few mentors bring nearly four decades of hands-on experience within the public education system. I understand the "red tape" and how to cut through it.
* **Direct & Transparent Communication:** I value clarity and directness. My sessions are structured to be low-stress and high-impact.
* **Lifelong Learning:** My personal interests range from the complexities of **cosmology** to the precision of **international transit systems**. I bring the same curiosity and appreciation for "deep dives" to my mentoring, helping clients harness their intense interests as strengths.

> "The goal of mentoring is not to change who a person is, but to provide the tools and confidence they need to thrive as they are."
