  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I have been singing as early as I can remember. My dad is a guitarist and he would teach me songs and we would perform them together for family and friends. There is a picture of us performing and I was only 4 years old. At 11 years old, my father brought me a CD of Bach Cantatas for a school project and when I listened to it I knew I wanted to be an opera singer. I studied piano at the age of nine and discovered my love for this instrument. I would say it is hard to choose a favorite instrument but I love the Venezuelan Cuatro - it is an instrument that reminds me of home and it's unique sound is captivating.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I love C4 trio! They produce stunning music, everyone should listen to them.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I like for my students to combine the historical knowledge of style and technique that then is translated into their performance. These takes times and research - the completion of methods such as Vaccai, Marchesi and García and the study of recordings from early XX century.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Every instrument has its challenges. I would say the Accordion seems to be a very difficult instrument to master, the different pitches that come out depending on the position of the instrument, my absolute admiration to those who play it!
  • What are your keys to success?

Love, compassion, perseverance, discipline and happiness.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Gabriela Montero, Jorge Glem and Ana Lucrecia Garcia. Three fabulous musicians who also have so much to share about art-culture and who are also wonderful human beings.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I was student I used to record all my classes and listen to them Friday nights, I had just moved to the US from Venezuela and I was a new english speaker. Some people would make fun of me because when you're in college you're supposed to party and have fun in the weekends. I was afraid of losing my scholarship so I didn't want risk anything. Fast forward I was getting As in every test and felt really comfortable and could understand what my teachers were saying. I was really proud of myself for the discipline I had in school, but later on I learned that balance was just as important and that only studying is not necessarily healthy - that I can have fun and also be a good student.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

My passion and love for each of my students combined with my passion and knowledge for music. I believe I am a caring person and I love to see others happy, I think those qualities help me continue to improve on my teaching.
