I've studied with Maria Brea since I was in 7th grade, at 12-years-old. I had experience with playing music, I was a violinist first, but singing was a different ball game entirely. I wanted to go to LaGuardia High School, the best performing arts high school in NYC. I prepared two selections with Maria: a musical theater piece and an art song, in case I needed variety in my audition.
Since then, I was accepted into LaGuardia as a vocal major and continued studying with her. As a rising senior, I was accepted into Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard Pre-College, and I attended JPC as a voice student on a full scholarship. As a senior, for college, I was accepted into all of the schools I applied to: Bard Conservatory, The New School, Bostom Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, New England Conservatory, Northwestern, and The Juilliard School. As an incoming freshman at college, I'll be attending Northwestern as a dual-degree student in Vocal Performance and Social Policy with a full ride.
Frankly, Maria is a miracle worker if you've ever seen one. But the fact is that her teaching is not only helped by her in-depth knowledge on singing and anatomy, it's also helped by her as a person. Maria is one of the kindest people you will ever meet.
