About Sabrina

I'm a French-Italian writer, based in London. My main interest is writing for the screen but I am keen to take on any artistic project in which I believe in -- theatre, audio, novel writing, etc. I'm a graduate from the MA Screenwriting London Film School programme and have a previous degree in Film Studies at King's College London. Tutoring has always been a part of my life as I've started teaching conversational French & Italian and violin at a young age, and now I take immense pleasure and satisfaction in helping out with storytelling.

  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I first started tutoring when I was 14, giving violin lessons in Paris to my little sister's friend -who was 8 at the time. I met with her weekly, and I quickly realized that I loved the teaching feeling, that I could pass on valuable knowledge to someone who counted on me.

I continued tutoring in Paris and had more students and then moved to London where I focused on university (BA Film Studies).

As I really enjoyed teaching, in 2016 I created a Conversation Class Course within my mom's international summer music academy - L'Accademia Internazionale di Musica Da Camera Della Penisola Sorrentina.

Since January 2022, I decided that I should commit to teaching more and, as I graduated from my masters in Screenwriting, I added Screenwriting Class to my ads, along with French/Italian and Violin.
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

As a screenwriter, I am an immense fan of Amy Sherman Palladino (Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and period TV shows such as Vikings, The Last Kingdom, The 100 and Game of Thrones.

I am also very much a cinema fan and very much appreciate the director David Fincher (Seven, The Game, Fight Club, The Social Network…) and Christopher Nolan, who I very much admire as writer-director.

Violin-wise, my own violin teacher is my source of inspiration, always kind but directive, always supportive but strict.
  • What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

To me, tutoring/teaching is about caring. Caring about the success of your students, caring about the feeling of satisfaction they get when they understand something, caring about the way what you do together definitely matters to both, teacher and student.

Another key word is patience, because I don't believe one can ever be a good teacher without it. It is a tough endeavor helping someone else and, to my mind, the helper should never make the helped feel rushed or diminished.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

I believe my most valuable advice is not much different than Peter Pan's: I do believe in fairies, I do, I do.
Change « fairies » with whatever it is you believe it and hold on to that thought.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

Writing is an every day achievement. As a writer, I never stop writing. It's in my head, in my heart, in my dreams. It's all pieces of words and images and putting them down on paper is the definition of happiness. I couldn't be more lyrical and yet I couldn't be more sincere either.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

Graduating with Merit from my MA in Screenwriting is something that makes me proud. Not necessarily because I believe in the title but because it was an enormous decision for me to 'quit everything' and study what I truly knew was my passion. It brings me the certitude I was right.

And as I started tutoring aspiring screenwriters, I realized how much I was meant to do this. I love helping out, I love writing, I love reading new stories.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

All the time. Children are surprising because they often don't have the same fears adults do, so they are less shy. Adults, once they have decided to commit, improve immensely because they put their entire selves in it.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

Each lesson, I learn from them at least as much as they learn from me :)
