About Carys
I am a passionate sociology tutor with a strong academic background and real-world research experience. I hold a BA in Sociology from the University of Leeds and an MSc in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where I was awarded Best Overall Performance in both my undergraduate and master’s degrees. I know what it takes to excel in sociology and academic writing, and I am committed to helping students develop the skills and confidence to succeed. Beyond academia, I have worked in the humanitarian and development sector, conducting research in South Sudan, Somalia, and Uganda. I have collaborated with the United Nations and international NGOs to implement field research in emergency contexts, giving me firsthand experience in applying sociological theories and research methods to real-world issues. This background allows me to bring a unique perspective to my tutoring, making lessons engaging, relevant, and practical. I take a relaxed, supportive, and engaging approach to teaching, ensuring students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their understanding. Whether you need help with GCSE, A-Level, or university-level sociology, I am here to guide you through the subject, refine your analytical skills, and help you achieve your academic goals.

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, supportive, and designed to build confidence in sociological thinking and analysis. I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs, whether they require help understanding key sociological theories, developing critical arguments, or applying research methods effectively. Lessons are interactive and discussion-based, encouraging students to engage with sociological concepts and think independently. A typical lesson lasts one hour and focuses on a specific topic, starting with a clear explanation, followed by real-world examples and case studies to bring theories to life. I encourage critical discussions and guide students through essay writing techniques, structuring arguments, and evaluating evidence. With a BA in Sociology from the University of Leeds and an MSc in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies from the London School of Economics and Political Science, I have a strong academic background in sociology, politics, economics, and development studies. My professional experience conducting research with the United Nations and international NGOs in South Sudan, Somalia, and Uganda allows me to incorporate practical insights into my teaching. I offer tutoring for GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate, and postgraduate students, as well as anyone interested in developing a deeper understanding of sociology. Whether you are looking for general subject tutoring, essay support, or dissertation guidance, I provide engaging and personalised lessons to help you succeed.

She has tons of real-world experience in international development and sociology, so she doesn’t just teach theory, she actually connects it to real-life situations, which makes everything way more interesting and relevant.
