About Jessica
Hello! My name is Jess and I’m a writer, editor and creative facilitator based in Glasgow, Scotland.
In 2022, I graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a first-class honours degree in Creative Writing and English Literature. I was also the recipient of several graduate awards, including the Beatrice Collins Prize for highest Creative Writing dissertation mark in my academic year, and the Meston Prize, for highest average English mark.
I have had work published in a number of literary journals and magazines, and I was runner-up in the UK Film Festival’s 2022 Short Script Competition. I am also an experienced copyeditor, and have edited and proofread for several magazines and publishers.
Additionally, I run my own creative writing group here in Glasgow, and have been teaching creative workshops and leading writing sessions for over two years.
I specialise in screenwriting, essay writing and short prose, although I am also a published poet.
My goal as a tutor is to provide constructive and personalised guidance as you develop your craft as a writer, and to make our lessons engaging, nurturing and fun!
I know how difficult all this can be. I was a burnt-out student once – drowning in deadlines, worrying about my grades, struggling to keep up with increasing workload, and doing a whole lot of reading and writing.
I also know how difficult it is to be a writer right now. It can be hard to find the time, space and motivation to focus on your work and creativity, especially if you are working or juggling multiple commitments and obligations.
If you’re looking for someone who will read your work, take it seriously, provide balanced and helpful feedback, and help build your confidence as a writer, I want to help!

Our sessions will be fun, friendly, encouraging and constructive. I want to get to know you: what are your creative or academic goals? What are your unique strengths and next steps? How do you best work and learn? This way, we can tailor our session to fit you, and create a safe space for your learning.
Bring me your creative portfolio, your work-in-progress, your university assignment, your competition submission, and let’s workshop it together!
I can give detailed, constructive and effective feedback on your creative work (short stories, screenplays, etc.). I promise to really take the time to read and understand your work, get to know your distinct creative voice, work out your strengths and next steps, and deliver my feedback in a way that is positive, encouraging and helpful. I can suggest edits and provide guidance on things like language, structure, narrative voice and theme, and together we can refine your work and make it the best it can be.
Feedback is an essential part of being a writer – no one gets better on their own! I believe that creativity will always be a collaborative effort, and that a fresh pair of eyes on your work can never be a bad thing. Getting feedback from family and friends is great, but a neutral perspective is truly invaluable. So, whilst I believe in creating a kind and supportive environment, I can assure you that my feedback will always be constructive, direct, and balanced!
I can also assist with English literature essay writing. I can help with the following:
- close reading and textual analysis skills
- brainstorming essay responses
- essay planning and structuring
- editing and spellchecking
You can bring me an essay or assignment and we can work through them together, figuring out how to make them tighter, clearer, more concise and academic, and how to improve the structure and flow of ideas. You could also bring me your class text or materials and we can work on your textual analysis skills.
If you need help with something else related to creative writing or English and you don't see it here, please don’t hesitate to reach out and I’ll see if I’m the right person to help.
